BUG JAM '99
Santa Pod - 24-25/7
| Bug Jam tends to be the high point of our summer because we get to
see so many of our old friends on the scene. The weather was spectacular with both the Saturday and Sunday being hot and sunny. In fact many people where showing the sunburn marks of someone out too long in the sun.
I await information as far as how many people actually attended but it looked busier this
year then I have ever seen it before.
Due to the excessive heat as well as the enourmous crowds meant that is was very difficult to take any decent photographs. The Show n' Shine which is always the perfect photo-opportunity for the country's best looking VWs proved to be a little disappointment as the cars and vans where parked quite close together right in front of the main stage with massive crowds wedged in between the veichles which mad it impossiable to get any decent pictures. So sadly, I have no pictures to bring you for this report although I will try and revamp this page once I've sourced some good photographs. We arrived midway through Saturday afternoon having made the journey easily without any engine problems. Despite having been to San Pod on numerous occasions and the fact that it is clearly signposted, we still managed to take make two wrong turns but where quickly able to get back on course. Once we found Andy & Carol and the rest of our VW club, we set up our tents and got hard to work with a spot of sunbathing. Saturday night was spent wandering from the special events areas that had been set up. nThere was a wide range of DJs on offer, each playing different types of music. We also came accross the Blow Up crew from the Wag Club in London who where hosting one of the events on the Saturday night. Sunday was another beautiful day and so we spent much of the day watching the racing on the 1/4 mile strip and also looking around the various stalls. We tried to leave early but because of major conjestion leaving the site, we where sat in a line of traffic queuing for over 2 hours trying to leave. Others we hear, where worse off as they where camped further back on the site and also decided to leave later when the queue for the exit was much longer. All together, it was a fabulous weekend, mainly down to the weather, for the first time this year, I actually found it quite comfortable camping as normally once the night draws in it can get very chilly under canvas. |
