How to obtain:
Cid will give you a lantern when you embark upon your first SeeD mission. Simply select the lantern in your item inventory and you will battle Diablo. Defeat him to receive him.

Strategy:
This battle can be quite tough if you're still at a low level. Remember, you can use the latern anytime during the game. If you can't defeat him, try battling him later when your characters are better developed.

Before entering the battle, make sure you have stocked plenty of 'Cure Magic'. Start the battle by inflicting Diablo with all your available GF's. This will enable you to inflict more critical damage before he casts Demi and pretty much wipes them out. Keep your GF's alive if possible to take advantage of higher AP when winning the battle. Keep attacking with Squall and Zell, while Selphie cures constantly cures the party to keep them in action. Try casting 'Double' on her to make her curative spell more effective. If you haven't acquired it, try having her use 'Dark Magic'. Diablo will give you a chance to cure yourself after casting Demi, so take advantage of the time by curing your party.

Item Character will be able to use items from your inventory during battle. This ability uses complete AP.
Ankoku Equipped character will be able to increase your attacking power while decreasing your defensive strength. This ability uses 100 AP.

 
Junction Abilities Description
HP Character will be able to junction magic to improve your HP total. This ability uses complete AP.
Raise Magic Strength Character will be able to junction magic to improve your magic power. This ability uses complete AP.
Accuracy Character will be able to junction magic to your attack accuracy. This ability uses 120 AP.
Ability x3 Enables you to junction 3 abilities to your character. This ability uses complete AP.

 
Guardian Force Abilities Description
G.F. HP +10% Guardian Force will be able to increase its HP total by 10%. This ability uses 40 AP.
G.F. HP +20% Guardian Force will be able to increase its HP total by 20%. This ability uses 70 AP.
G.F. HP +30% Guardian Force will be able to increase its HP total by 30%. This ability uses 140 AP.

 
Menu Abilities Description
Make Void Magic Character will be able to turn certain items into a void/time-based magic. This ability uses 30 AP.
Make Status Magic Character will be able to turn certain items into a status magic. This ability uses 30 AP.

 
Character Abilities Description
HP +20% Character will be able to increase your HP total by 20%. This ability uses complete AP.
HP +40% Character will be able to increase your HP total by 40%. This ability uses 120 AP.
HP +80% Character will be able to increase your HP total by 80%. This ability uses 240 AP.
Magic Strength +20% Character will be able to increase your magic strength by 20%. This ability uses 60 AP.
Magic Strength +40% Character will be able to increase your magic strength by 40%. This ability uses 120 AP.
Bundoru Equipped character might steal an item when attacks an enemy physically. This ability uses 200 AP.

 
Party Abilities Description
Half Encounter Characters have 50% less random battles on the world map and on field screens. This ability uses 30 AP.
No Encounter Characters have no chance of encountering a random battle. This ability uses 100 AP.
