| Building your own web site (Things to help you get going) |
|
HomePage.com |
Homepage.com, A good home for your site. Type whatever you want in front of "hompage.com", and that will be your site name. No more mile long addresses. They can help you with building your site, or just give you their ftp server and you can do it yourself. |
Tucows |
If you need help with anything for the development of your page (help with images, efficient layout, polishing it up, and quick java tips) |
|
Project Cool: Develper Zone |
Everything from the basics on web design to doing some really funky things. They also have scripts you can copy and paste into your site (to make people think you know all about java, even if you don't have a sweet clue). |
Beginners Home Page |
Another site to give you some helpful hints on web page construction, including The 5 minute web page. According to his tutorials, he probably would not like the fact that I have used the images as links. :-( |
|
GIF Construction Set |
Allows you to make your own animations |
|
ProBoost |
Use this site to see if your page is search engine friendly. Just type in your address, and it will flag any problems. |
|
Submit Express |
A great place to get you site posted to 40 search engines, and it is FREE!!! (although, I have not seen any traffic through them). All you have to do is type in your site's address (make sure you have used your meta-tags effectively before you submit it), Submit-Express will do the rest. |
|
SiteAdd.com |
This is another site that will add your site to search engines for free. (15 of them). You have to give you sites address, and enter the keywords. However, it does not read your meta-tags, and there is not place for a description of you site, so the search engine only shows the title of your site. This is actually a really good thing for me because Homepage.com has a bit of an error that kills meta-tags. If you have a similar problem, SiteAdd.com is a must. (In less then a week I have had people from 3 new search engines). |
| Counters |
|
Sitemeter |
The best counter I have come across. Gives you all kinds of stats and is really fast at loading (at least I hope it is, but you are probably a better judge of that since it is loaded in this page) |
|
TheCounter.com |
Great states, but it sometimes takes forever to load. It also freezes the page until the counter is loaded; preventing access to links in you page until the counter is loaded. |
|
Fast Counter |
If all you want is a fast counter, no stats, and no fancy stuff (It doesn't allow you to ignore your own visits). |
|
The Ultimate Counter |
It has some really funky colours, and cool designs for the counter display. However, it doesn't ignore you from being counted. |
|
Extreme Tracker |
Huge amount of stats, and fast, but I have not been able to figure out how to get it to show the number of visitors directly on the page. |
| Pretty self explanatory :-). I don't remember why I didn't use this one? |
| Search Engines |
| Mamma.com | The mother of all Search Engines. It will find hits from all search engines altavista, excite, HoBot, etc.). This is the way to go. |
| Dogpile | Just like Mamma.com. Searches all engines. |
| Altavista, Yahoo, HotBot, Excite, Lycos, Infoseek, | |
| South Park |
| This week on South Park | This site is almost 2 years old, but if all else fails you can to get other other SouthPark links |
| FanDom | Formerly SPcentral. All kinds of South Park stuff |
| xX-Cel South Park Movies | This is where I started out finding South Park stuff. They have not updated since episode 307, but they will sometimes list the FTP servers they use. So you can always just go to the FTP server and look around. |
| Quake 2 and Freeze Tag |
|
PlanetQuake |
PlanetQuake. The source for all your Quake 2 (and 3) needs. Upgrade patches for Quake, all the modifications (Freeze Tag, Chaos, etc.) |
|
Freeze Tag |
The Freeze Tag main page. Good place to start for all your Freeze tag needs. They have Freeze Tag mod (Quake 2 and 3), new Freeze Tag maps, a ranking section (see how you measure up to other Quakers), Freeze Tag server listing. Also, there is a listing of the Freeze Tag clans. If you feel are good enough, and would like to feel a sense of community as you engage in mass murder you can look up the clan pages for a tryout. Most of them will have Freeze Tag files, and the models used by some of the Freeze regulars. |
|
GameSpy |
The GameSpy main page. To get you connected to all the Quake 2 servers out there so you can start killing the masses. |
|
Blue's News |
This link will send you to Quake 2 stuff (maps, models, mods). They also have stuff for the Half-Life, Unreal, and Quake 3. |
|
HoloGrafix.net |
This ftp is linked right to the Freeze tag maps. I have usually been able to all the ones I am looking for. You can check out their website for other stuff. |
|
3Dbodyshop.com |
This was the best place to get all the models. The web page has been down for months (at least I can't get to it). The image is linked to the ftp server. All the files are still there, but you just can't see what the model looks like or get its specs. I still like it. |
|
Polycount |
What was Q2ppm2 is now polycount. They have redone the page, it is faster than it was, but it still gets a little sluggish at times for me. |
|
Barry's World models |
Barry's World models. Now pictures of the models, but you can still grab them. |
|
BullsEye |
Has new pak files to modify the look and feel of Quake 2. They focus on new crosshairs . |
|
ERAD's Ping Page |
If you are not happy with your ping, jump over to ERAD's page. After doing most of what he suggested I was able to bring my ping down by about 100-200ms. (I have got 140 ms on some sites!). Thanks to [FST]Jag for this one. |
Overclockers.com |
To get every last drop of power from your computer, try this place. Although, I don't think I have ever seen so many disclaimers in my life, as I did there. |
| Useful Chemistry links |
|
Chemweb.com |
ChemWeb.com. Links to chemistry journals. A searchable database for MSDS, structures, abstracts, and others. Job listings. Along with a bunch of other chem stuff. |
CIC |
The Chemical Institute of Canada |
|
Royal Society of chemistry |
. Job listings. Links to journals. |
|
Yahoo search results |
The Yahoo listing of some chemistry journal sites. |
|
The International Digital Access Library |
. The have a searchable index of almost everything but chemistry. Still, if you need something in a physics or bio journal, it would be a good place to start. |
American Chemical Society |
You can get access to all the ACS journals through here. |
|
|
Some useful chemistry software. Most of it is freeware, or trail versions |
|
Tetrahedron |
The Tetrahedron homepage. |
| Newfoundland links |
GrosMorne.com |
This is the new Gros Morne Site. They have pictures of sites you can expect to see while in the park. This gives you the basics about hiking trails. Listings of accomidations, resturants, and shop locations. It seems more for the touristy type vacations as opposed to camping and hiking trips. |
GrosMorne National Park |
A different Gros Morne National Park site, by Parks Canada. This site has much more detail to it. All kinds of infomation about the camp grounds, hiking maps, pictures, and online tours. If you want to know anything about Gros Morne, this place will probably have it. |
Marble Mountain. |
This is the best ski slope on Newfoundland. If you go to the site, you will probably run across their slogan while there, "The best skiing east of the Rockies". As I have not been skiing on anything west of PEI, I am afraid I cannot confirm or deny that. One thing I can say, they try their best to keep the tourists happy. |
OZ fm Radio |
Newfoundland radio station. As this is really the only fm station you can get outside of St. John's (other than country), OZ is probably the most popular station on the Rock. If you are up early enough I recommend listening to the Dawn Patrol; Ran, Lar, and Deb are the best. It is on between 6 and 9 am (-4:00 GMT). |
|
The homepage for my hometown. It is done up pretty nicely, so why not drop by and see where I cam from. |
| Terranovas' Spot On The Rock | This is a friend's web site. He has some really cool pictures of Newfoundland (his fiancé is a photographer) |
| Miscellaneous |
| Forward of the Day | This is where I went to get most of the forwards that are in my Funny Forwards section. If you are looking for a way to waste some time, this is the place. |
Digital Maps of Canada |
I have been trying to track down a digital mapping program for Canada for the longest time. I finally found what I was looking for at this site. Everything you could want to find will be on there, they have even put the trees in. |
