Hymns New & Used

2x2’s take pride in claiming that their fellowship is not “man-made”; however, one need look no further than the very hymns they sing for proof that this claim is without substance. For example, my study of the hymn list provided by the TTT Website, reveals that in the 1951 edition of Hymns Old & New, only 223 out of the 335 hymns were written by 2x2s. In other words, 33% of the hymns were written by people of “worldly religions”. (TTT also has an excellent piece regarding the 1987 revision here)

Below is the list of which hymns were written by “outsiders” as well as each writer’s religious affiliation (when possible). This affiliations were ascertained by Internet searches and are comprised of a known denomination, specific church or institution, close association with known religions, or church mission.
