Where: Heerlen (Netherlands, near Maastricht)
Grew up in: The beautiful roman town of
MAASTRICHT, capital of the province Limburg
("Cheese from Limburg" is actually from Maastricht and called "Rommedoe")
Maastricht is 207 km south-east from Amsterdam.
Studied: Industrial Engineering (B.Eng),
specialization in photonics (What
the h... is that?!?)
at the Rijswijk
Institute of Technology, Netherlands...
Or in Dutch: Technische
Hogeschool Rijswijk (near The Hague)
Like: Geocaching, hiking, traveling, Scouting,
sports, martial arts (I currently practise Genseiryu

Dislike: Ironing, brussels sprouts, olives,
raisins in my cerials
Hate: people with no respect for others
and people that do not
respect nature (you know, those MORONS that always throw
their empty cans and cigarette packages on the ground,
no matter where they are or how close the next garbage can is!!
These people really should click HERE
or HERE!!!)
What can I tell more? Well, I grew up in the most beautiful town (and the eldest!)
of the Netherlands: Maastricht. This little town (120.000 inhabitants) dates back
to the roman period (over 2000 years ago) of which is still much left! It's
also known for its pubs and universities.
For seven years I was at the St.-Maartenscollege in Maastricht, where I got my A-levels.
Well, actually I graduated at the Stercollege in Maastricht (1-jarig VWO for the Dutchies)...
Then I got lost at the University of Utrecht
geology and
physical geography) for one year.
In the meantime I did the tests to become fighter pilot in the Dutch Airforce.
Unfortunately I was rejected in the fourth phase (out of five!), which contained the Flight Simulator.
I discovered the Institute of Technology
in Rijswijk which is in between The Hague
and Delft.
There, I started to study industrial engineering (Technische Natuurkunde in Dutch). In that period,
two and a half years, I lived in The Hague.
During my traineeship I worked at the Dutch Holographic Laboratory (DHL) in Eindhoven.
That took 6 months. For my graduation project I went abroad: Switzerland, to the European
Laboratory for Particle Physics, better known as CERN
I graduated in January 1997 and my graduation project was about...
well err.. read my CV!
After graduation I stayed a bit longer at CERN, for one year in total. In May
1998
I joined the Dutch Air Force and went to the Royal
Military Academy at Breda. In January 1999 I became
a "technical officer". At first I worked for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal
(EOD) at Gilze-Rijen Air Force base.
I stayed there for about 3 months. After that I got a position at Woensdrecht
AFB, doing a
project to support logistics in the
Mid Life Update (MLU) of the Dutch F-16's.
But after 9 months I suddenly had the chance to become a pilot myself. So, in
January 2000 my life changed totally.
I went to the
KLM Flight Academy in Eelde for two years. Graduated in July 2002 and in
August of the same year I
started at
KLM as a 2nd officer on the B747-400... In 2010 I became first officer on the B737, which I still fly with pleasure to date...
What the future will bring? Well... THAT is something you CAN'T find with Google, Lycos or Yahoo...
What do you mean "you wanted to be brief"??? I said I would TRY to
be brief!
(Sorry...)
O, if you are interested (you're probably not, it's even amazing you got
so far already!),
then you can read my Curriculum
Vitae (resume for you Americans!).
