The Journey (Part 3)

Happy Birthday Shane I said to him as he blew out the candles.
He blew them out then stuck his finger in the cake.
With a laugh I pulled the candles from the top.
I snatched him up and hugged and tickled him.
I love you mommy he giggled.

It was all worth it.
The struggle and doubt.
The questions with no answers.
It was worth it.
He loved me.

He opened each present squealing with delight.
The toys were a hit.
The clothes were a lead balloon.
Oh well
Mom can't win them all.

It was all worth it.
The struggle and doubt.
The questions with no answers.
It was worth it.
He loved me.

Time for cake and ice cream.
He wore most of it.
It's ok.
A boy is only 3 once.

Later after a bath and a video it was cuddle-time.
Nestled in the Barney covered race car bed Shane tried to pretend he wasn't sleepy.
A bit of Winnie the Pooh and some Tigger too.
Soon his eyes start to fall.
I love you Shane I whisper as he begins to nod off.
You are the best mommy in the world he responds.
My heart soars.

It was all worth it.
The struggle and doubt.
The questions with no answers.
It was worth it.
He loved me.
