FAQ - or, what they would be if anyone cared to ask me...
Q: What do you believe in most strongly?
A: I know this is going to sound selfish, but myself. If I don't, nobody else will. Along those lines: staying away from drugs and alcohol.
Actually, to be quite honest, everything I believe is backed up strongly.
Q: I've never heard you mention much about your father, other than that poem. Why is this?
A: Because I don't know the man. He walked out shortly after I was born, and I've only talked to him once in my life, when I was 11. His father had died and I (I don't know why) went through a lot of trouble to find a way to contact him and tell him I was sorry. I think it scared him, and I'm glad.
Q: What is the scariest thing that's ever happened to you?
A:This is easy. A few years ago, my family and I, and a friend of ours that was visiting went to the Olentangy Caverns in the Columbus area. My mom and sister and I had been there several times before and thought it would be a cool place to take our friend, who had never seen any caves. When we went it was before the tourist season had really started, so the tour was "self guided" - which just meant that you walked around by yourself while listening to a casette recording that was playing throughout the cave. Well, we were rather familiar with the place, so this didn't bother us. We were on the bottom level, looking at fossils embedded into the walls, when suddenly everything got really quiet. We didn't hear people anymore, and, after a few minutes - we didn't hear the tape anymore, either. We stood there waiting to see if the tape had maybe reached its end and was going to start over. It didn't. Minutes later, the lights went out.
At first, we thought maybe there was a storm or something outside that had momentarily knocked out a power line. We didn't worry because we had seen the emergency lights, and figured they would come back on. They didn't. We were down there, 4 of us, for about a half hour, desparately trying to find a way out. I don't care how dark of a place you think you've been in. No matter where you've been, I guarantee that you've had some ounce of light, even if it was simply natural light that had been sucked into the air particles - there is NOTHING blacker than being 200 feet underground with absolutely NO light of any kind.
We happened to have a camera with us, but whenever we took a picture for the flash, the light was so bright, and the walls of the cave so dark that it did nothing but momentarily blind us. It was so dark that I walked face first into a rock without even knowing it...The emergency lights only worked if you heldthe button down, which still emitted a light too bright to be of any benefit. Mentally I was doing okay until my mom fell down some steps and reality set in.
Eventually the lights came back on, and I ran faster than was humanly possible, just to get out of there...
How did this happen? Well - the woman that was in charge decided to just go home, without ever checking to make sure everyone was out...She saw our van was still there and searched the rest of the place (which has a put-put course, and other things like that) before finally realizing we were *gasp* in the cave. The worst part was that we were there on a Saturday, and would have been stuck there until the following Monday had she not noticed...
It was the singlemost scary thing that has ever happened to me. I still get chills and the hair stands up on the back of my neck any time I'm near anything that resembles a cave, which is horrible, because I used to love them. I think I might be able to go back someday, but not my sister. She's absolutely petrified to even watch movies with caves in them. She was only about 10 or eleven at the time...
Q:What's something not many people know about you?
A: I used to sing in competitions all the time when I was younger, and I once placed 4th in the nation for it.
Dang, I just blew my own cover.
Q:Anything else?
A:Of course, but I can't tell you everything. I guess one other thing is that I hold national records in archery (compound) and one is possibly even a world record.
Q:What has been a life-long dream of yours?
A: To be in a band. Ever since 6th grade, I've been trying to be in one, and I'm not going to stop trying until I do.
Q: What's a job you'd love to have?
A: Band, Cartoonist, computer animator, actress, being a cast member of Saturday Night Live, writer.
Yeah, I know, I dream too much. So what?Q: Who do you look up to?
A: My mom. She's been such an amazingly strong person, raising my sister and I by herself. I respect all her opinions and admire her abilities to always be honest, and to hold herself together no matter what happens.
Q: Would you like to see into the future or go back into the past?
A: Go back into the past, I think. I'd like to change some things, and not just things I've done, but global things, too. Besides, if I went into the future, I'd get lazy and not do anything, because I would already see what happened to me, and that would defeat everything.
Q: What are your fears?
A: This is really embarrassing, but...ok.
I really hate mannequins, scorpions and animals that have met with a taxidermist. Why? mannequins are just creepy, and ever since I was little I'd have nightmares where they would fall on top of me and I'd be trapped under them. Plus there's a halloween story behind that...but nevermind. Similar problems with the animals...and as for scorpions...*shiver* I can't even look at one. ughhh...
Q: Where is the coolest place you've ever been?
A: Hands down, Berlin, Germany. I LOVE it there...ahhh...
Very close second would be Seattle, WA.Q: What is something weird that you do on a regular basis?
A:Everything I do on a regular basis is weird...but...ok.
I guess I'd say that if there is something going through my mind, like a question I have, I pick a cd from my collection, randomly, and put it in the cd player. I hit the "shuffle" button and then pick a number. Whatever song it plays, for example, 4th, I use the lyrics to help me think of the answer to my problem. Yes, I know it's weird, and yes, I know it has no meaning whatsoever, but it's fun, and I do it anyway.
Q: What's the coolest thing you've ever done?
A: At this point in my life, I'd probably say the Mock Crash.
Anyone who's seen it probably finds this rather stupid, but I don't care. Convincing people, no matter how old they are, to think before drinking is something that will always be at the top of my "cool" priority list, even if the masses disagree with me.
It's not my job to make the world happy.
Q:What is the first CD you ever purchased/owned?
A: Weezer's Blue album. I was in sixth grade. I still have it. Still listen to it. Still love it.
Q:Who is your "best friend"?
A: I have more than one answer for this.
My age, girl: Carole. ~ If you saw us together, or talked to us, you would think we have nothing in the world in common. We do, though, most of those similarities are in the way our minds work, and our senses of humor. The things that are different about us just give us more to talk about.
My age, guy: Ryan. ~ He's always seen me for just who I am, and makes me laugh accordingly. Without him, I would not be Gimpy.
Other: My mom, my sister, and Sumit. ~ There's no real explanation required. If you know them, you know why. If you don't know them, you should.
More to come...
