Title: Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolow
MPAA Rating: Rated R for sexual content, language and crude humor
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Rob Schneider, Arija Bareikis, William Forsythe, Eddie Griffin, and Oded Fehr
Rating & Review: 2 out of 4 stars
Another former SNL star trying to make it big the cheap way like Sandler and Myers. But wait, Sandler's and Myers' secret to money and success is making cheap-laugh PG-13 flicks. Schneider's is rated R which is a mistake in my book. Aww, this movie isn't that bad. Crude sometimes for a laugh - which it receives (sometimes). Yes, it might be the same jokes as in any Sandler/Myers/Farley/Spade/MacDonald or any other SNLer, but it must work because the only reason this weak plot, weak character, weak everything movie gets a rather high two stars is because of one thing - it's kinda funny. Recommend it? Not strongly.
Best Part of the Movie: Some funny sences.
Worst Part of the Movie: Same thing over and over again.

Title: Dick
MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for sex-related humor, drug content and language
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Dan Hedaya, Dave Foley, Will Ferrell, and Bruce McCulloch
Rating & Review: 2˝ out of 4 stars
Will Ferrell and Bruce McCulloch are hilarious and make a great team, Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams are beautiful, and Dan Hedaya plays Richard Nixon almost perfectly. But, sometimes the plot wanders away. Nice cameo by Jim Breuer.
Best Part of the Movie: Light and fluffy.
Worst Part of the Movie: Too light and fluffy.

Title: Dinosaur
MPAA Rating: Rated PG for intense images
Genre: Family/Animation
Starring: D.B. Sweeney, Julianna Margulies, Joan Plowright, Ossie Davis, Max Casella, Samuel E. Wright, and Della Reese
Rating & Review: 3 out of 4 stars
Astonishing visuals, pictureque backgrounds, and clear, crisp surfaces make Dinosuar a digital masterpiece. Not one of the best, but the best computer-generated imagery of all animated epics. This might sound a little hypocritically of me, but you should see this movie just to check out and stare in awe at the incredible, breathtaking technology. (Something you shouldn't do with The Matrix.) The story is standard issue. Same Disney plot, same Disney dialouge, and same ol' Disney ending. Kiddies will eat it up. However, Dinosaur can occasionally be as scary as the real thing. For instance, there is a firey holocaust which even frightened me! Thank you Disney for not ruining this film with silly song and dance like "Hercules". Some comic relief placed at the right is what works here. Dinosaur is not the greatest thing Disney's ever done, but it is fun (especially for kids.)
Best Part of the Movie: Killer graphics and infinite detail.
Worst Part of the Movie: Poor character complexity.

Title: Double Jeopardy
MPAA Rating: Rated R for language, a scene of sexuality with brief nudity, and some violence
Genre: Adventure/Thriller
Starring: Ashley Judd, Tommy Lee Jones, Annabeth Gish, Bruce Greenwood, and Roma Maffia
Rating & Review: 3 out of 4 stars
I have to admit, I didn't have an open mind going to see this movie. First, I didn't plan to see it anyway, and second, I read the critics' reviews and they weren't so good. So I thought to myself - this movie is really going to have to impress me to get a good grade. Well, I'm stupid. This wan't a bad movie, I don't know why it got bad reviews. This film is very successful at the box office and I can see why. Ashely Judd is breathtakingly seductive. Throughout the whole movie she was beautiful. And Tommy Lee Jones is just plain cool. Jones plays another fugitive chaser, while Ashley plays a devoted mom trying to find her son. All in all, I enjoyed the plot, characters, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Best Part of the Movie: Ashley Judd
Worst Part of the Movie: You would hate to be in her situation.

Title: Erin Brockovich
MPAA Rating: Rated R for language
Genre: Drama
Starring: Julia Roberts, Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart, Marg Helgenberger, Cherry Jones, Veanne Cox, Conchata Ferrell, Tracey Walter, and Peter Coyote
Rating & Review: 3˝ out of 4 stars
Hey look, Julia Roberts not in a click flick. Now we can see how really good she really is. Think "A Civil Action" but with a heart and a brain...and much better! On to the star, Julia Roberts. Roberts was excellent: radiant, beautiful, strong, funny, and convincing. She is definitely the spotlight of the movie. Co-starring Albert Finney was also excellent. He also is funny, light-hearted, and pleasantly entertaining. Great story, good directing, and believable acting makes Erin Brockovich very recommended. Touching and sad sometimes but at other times down right hilarious. Being serious and funny at the same time is a good thing. Really good movie for dates and adults.
Best Part of the Movie: Keeps your interest.
Worst Part of the Movie: Julia Roberts with a dirty mouth.

Title: Frequency
MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for intense violence, disturbing images, and language
Genre: Fantasy/Suspense
Starring: Dennis Quaid, James Caviezel, Elizabeth Mitchell, André Braugher, Shawn Doyle, Noah Emmerich, and Daniel Henson
Rating & Review: 3˝ out of 4 stars
What drew me to Frequency was not only the early rave reviews, but the exciting premise of the plot. An excellent script made The Sixth Sense the sleeper-hit of '99. Dennis Quaid's new fantasy thriller uses the same tactics. Here is a fair warning, if you see this movie you must pay very close attention at all times. Doze off for five seconds and you'll be lost. This film is one of those "thinking movies", so be prepared. Not everyone likes those kinds of movies, I love them. Dennis Quaid got into his character very well. A little action, a little adventure, a ton of emotion makes Frequency a must see.
Best Part of the Movie: Great idea.
Worst Part of the Movie: Not flawess like Sixth Sense.

Title: Galaxy Quest
MPAA Rating: Rated PG for some action violence, mild language and sensuality.
Genre: Adventure/Comedy/Sci-Fi
Starring: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, Robin Sachs, and Justin Long
Rating & Review: 3˝ out of 4 stars
I have to agree with the critics, Galaxy Quest is one of the biggest surprises this year. From the outside, Galaxy Quest looks like a another dull Tim Allen movie. But wait, Tim Allen was very impressive and leads this movie to infinity and beyond....I just had to say that. This suprising, critically-acclaimed, space adventure has quite a cast. Tim Allen is great, Sigourney Weaver is seductive, and Alan Rickman was hilarious. Alan Rickman was perfect in Die Hard and was sooo evil in Robin Hood. He plays villain characters very well. But this time he's on the good side. This movie has a slow start, but don't worry about it, because it has all the elements - action, adventure, romanace, and comedy. Very recommended. The kids (and parents) will love it.
Best Part of the Movie: Suprisingly a good movie.
Worst Part of the Movie: Slow start.

Title: Gladiator
MPAA Rating: Rated R for graphic violence
Genre: Drama/Action
Starring: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Djimon Hounsou, Richard Harris, and Spencer Treat Clark
Rating & Review: 4 out of 4 stars
It is a triumph in Hollywood to see Russell Crowe get a commanding lead in a movie. Summer's first blockbuster is a success. Think Braveheart Roman style. Russell Crowe is incredible. His intense realism shows he doesn't overact and sure doesn't underact. Phoenix was an excellent evil Ceasar. Visually amazing, the clear, crisp, innovative swirling camera along with tremendous sound effects enhanced everything. Perfect blanance and blend of battle and beauty. This movie is not about plot, however it is about charismatic characters and in-depth imagination. The "afterlife" substory began and ended the tale of a Roman general turned into a slave into a gladiator into a hero. Moving and touching to the max. Gore, yes. Extremely entertaining, yes. Should you see it? Most definitely.
Best Part of the Movie: Almost everything.
Worst Part of the Movie: Just about nothing.

Title: The Green Mile
MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong violence, language and sex-related material
Genre: Drama/Fanasty
Starring: Tom Hanks, David Morse, Michael Clarke Duncan, Barry Pepper, Bonnie Hunt, James Cromwell, Michael Jeter, Graham Greene, Doug Hutchinson, Sam Rockwell, Jeffrey DeMunn, Patricia Clarkson, and Harry Dean Stanton
Rating & Review: 4 out of 4 stars
In my opinion, The Green Mile is the best movie of the year. Now, The Sixth Sense and Three Kings were great movies with brillant acting and they should without a doubt be nominated. But I have to give the award to The Green Mile. Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of our time, and I think this is his greatest preformance. His prestige shines and his convincing character will be remembered. Michael Clarke Duncan is simply amazing and I think he should reconized as an up-and-coming star in Hollywood. If that's not enough, the supporting acting is phenomenal. This movie had some great evil characters, like Doug Hutchison's and Sam Rockwell's characters. They play them so well that you really deep down HATE them. The previews for The Green Mile don't give away the story at all, so get ready for some surprises. The Green Mile has an incredibly solid plot with great side stories that all tie in at the end. Everything comes together, and when it's all over, a great story was told. All of the mouse sences are pretty amazing and adorable. This is a very powerful, very sad movie, so be prepared for my pick for film of the year. This is a movie you could love or hate ... I loved it.
Best Part of the Movie: Best movie of the year.
Worst Part of the Movie: It sometimes can be hard to get through.

Title: How the Grinch Stole Christmas
MPAA Rating: Rated PG for some crude humor
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Jim Carrey, Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon, and Clint Howard
Rating & Review: 3 out of 4 stars
I don't know anyone who doesn't know Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas by heart. It is one of the greatest holiday stoires ever. It was just sooner or later Hollywood would cash in. 'Who' better to do it than mainstream's maniac, Jim Carrey. And his sidekick, Ron Howard. Howard kept the awkardly love for that nasty green Grinch. No matter what he says or what ge does, you see Jim and love 'em. Carrey, you already know, is obviously the best and only choice to capture the Grinch. He was wonderful, but he acted more like Ace Ventura than the slow-mumbling cartoon. Another highlight was Taylor Momsen 'who' played Cindy Lou-Who. Adorable is the only word to desrcibe those teeth!! You HAVE to see them! The famous story is still intacted, word for word sometimes, but this has another plot as well. Nice touch. And if you don't like the plot, then you'll have to love those very creative costumes and hair styles. See it, have fun.
Best Part of the Movie: Jim Carrey, duh.
Worst Part of the Movie: Too detailed where it shouldn't have been.

Title: The Hurricane
MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong language, and violence
Genre: Drama
Starring: Denzel Washington, Vicellous Reon Shannon, Deborah Unger, Liev Schreiber, John Hannah, Dan Hedaya, David Paymer, and Rod Steiger
Rating & Review: 3 out of 4 stars
The Hurricane is true story of the life of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. Rubin is not a lucky person. He spends most of his time on this earth in prison. Two diferent times he was sent to jail and both times he was innocent. This movie's foundation is its excellent performances. Danzel Washington is truly amazing. Dan Hedaya plays a very evil, racist detective. Vicellous Reon Shannon acted like he wasn't even acting in a movie, he was very natural and brought some hope into The Hurricane. I also liked to see Vinny Pastore from the smash-hit 'The Sopranos' get to play his entertaining stereotype. One of my favorite scences was when Danzel was in the "hole" and he was talking to himself, like there were two of him. That one secne should get him a nomination. I did like this movie, but then why only three stars? Well, great performaces doesn't mean great movie. The first 40% of the movie is disturbing, racist, and not entertaining. But luckily, the next 60% of the movie was uplifting, hopeful, and inspiring. I did notice some things: how could a prisoner have that much stuff in his cell, he had a heater(!), wardobe, typewriter, and lots of books. That's a lot of freedom (for a prisoner). And where was his wife and child at the end of the movie, I really wished they would have been there. In conclusion, I defintely recommend this movie.
Best Part of the Movie: Wonderful performances.
Worst Part of the Movie: It's quite disturbing.

Title: The Kid
MPAA Rating: Rated PG
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Bruce Willis, Spencer Breslin, Emily Mortimer, Lily Tomlin, Jean Smart, Daniel von Bargen, and Dana Ivey
Rating & Review: 3 out of 4 stars
Once someone begins to enjoy movies, they always pick out their favorite actor and stick with them. They try to see all or most of their movies and keep up with that they're up to. Well, when I saw "Die Hard" for the first time, I immediately chose Bruce Willis. Ever since then he has been my favorite actor. I have seen almost every movie he has been in. Now, on to The Kid. I think that Bruce was a great choice for this part. He was very funny and charming. The story is essentially Russ Duritz meets himself when he was 8 years old. They help each other with their generation's problems. The plot needs time to develop, and when it does there is a heart-warming story and lots of family fun. I really recommend it.
Best Part of the Movie: Happy twist ending.
Worst Part of the Movie: Very poor fight sence.
