Piqua Baseball 1999 Season Summary

The 1999 baseball team had a season to be rememebered. Led by seniors Matt Howell, Richie Pearson, Brent Leonard, Steve Frazier, and Aaron Trissell, the Indians had one of the top Piqua Baseball teams of the 90's. After a sluggish 6-3 start, the Indians caught fire winning 18 of their last 20 games to go 24-5, and finished 2nd in the GMVC posting a 12-2 record. The OHSBCA poll had the Indians ranked 10th in the state in Div. I baseball and 3rd in the Miami Valley Coaches poll.

After an easy win over Wayne, Piqua clinched the Sectional title with a 6-2 win over Springfield North. In the Div. I championship in Cincinnati Piqua defeated an excellent Glen Este team in a come-from-behind-nailbiter 3-1. The Indians season then came to a climactic close after a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati Elder, the eventual state champions.

"This team was very special, in that it was a group of young men that enjoyed playing together, and more importantly, enjoyed playing well. Every player on our roster had an impact on our success and it was a pleasure watching them play every day."
