Chapter 10
“Isaac! Didn’t you hear me?” Monica comes up behind him and tries to squeeze
her way between the two of you.
“No Monica. Please, leave us alone.”
“Just thought I would ask if you’d like a dance?” She asks Isaac as she bats her
eyelashes.
“No Monica. I have a date tonight. And once again, please leave us alone.” Isaac
states a little firmer this time.
“Well Isaac. Think about this: you dance a song with me, a slow one, and I’ll keep
your little girlfriend a secret.” She looks at you and makes a face. You lean in, closer
to Isaac’s side, wrapping one arm around his waist and placing your other on his
chest.
“No Monica. I don’t care what you say. Leave us alone.”
“Okay Isaac Hanson, play hard to get. You’ll be mine again someday.” She
snickers at you, then walks away.
“I really don’t like her,” you whisper to him, “can we leave?”
“No, let’s stay a little longer. She is not going to run us off.” Isaac kisses your
forehead. “Let’s go talk to Ashley.”
As you and Isaac make your way to the kitchen, there is a big clap of thunder with
lightening and the lights go out. It had scared you so badly that you jumped and had
some how lost Isaac completely. It’s so dark you can’t see in front of you “Isaac where
are you?” This was the last thing you needed, surrounded by a room full of people that
you had never met before, without Isaac. There is no answer from him and you start to
panic. But you can hear someone talking.
“Monica, get off of me!” It was Isaac. Ashley came around the corner with a
flashlight and shone it over on the couch. There sat Isaac with Monica in his lap.
“Monica, get up and get out of here,” Ashley tells her.
“Fine!” She stands up and straightens herself out then opens the door and leaves.
As she was closing the door, you noticed that it was pouring rain outside. Isaac stood
up and walks over to you.
“You’re right, let’s leave,” he grabs your hand and pulls you through the crowd, to
his car. Opening your door, you slump into the passenger seat and Isaac climbs in on
the other side.
“Really, I don’t want anything to do with her. She tried to kiss me.” Isaac says as
he faces you, not starting the engine.
“Isaac, I believe you. You don’t have to defend yourself. I saw how she was all
over you.” You tell him as you tuck his stringy wet hair behind his ear. He reaches
over and squeezes your hand. Then he starts the engine and drives back home. The
car ride is silent the whole way.
