Chapter 1
Isaac takes you in his arms and begins to kiss you, first your lips then your
neck, all while he is maneuvering you to your bed. He uses his body to push you down
against it. As each kiss begins to get more and more intense.
"Isaac ...." you breath onto his warm lips.
He stops and looks at you, "Shh... just relax."
And then you wake up. Seems that you have had that dream very often
ever since you left Tulsa and you always wake up at the same part. But it was a new
day. Saturday in fact. A very well deserved break from the hectic life of school.
This school year was much harder then any year you have ever had. Not
only was it your senior year, but you were also at a different school, in a different town,
in a different state. Mom’s sister Helen was becoming deaf and there wasn’t anything
they could do to help her. They were always really close and Mom wanted to move to
be near her and help her out. And besides that, Mom had gotten a job at Cleveland
Clinic. You had never met Helen, but learned quickly that she was rich and very
nice. Helen lived in Cleveland, Ohio. At the end of August, Mom and you moved, just in
time for the new school year. And it would be your luck that you wouldn’t be accepted
at school by 'normal kids,' but you did find a few to hang out with. One of the boys
even had an interest in you, but you shrugged me off. Keeping your mind on Isaac,
knowing he’d be back for you, some day.
Breaking up with him before you left was the hardest thing you ever did. To
this day, it haunts you. You just didn’t think that your relationship would be able to last
because you each came from totally different worlds.
One week after being in Cleveland for about a week. Mom had decided to
finally tell you the truth, you had been adopted. This brought about much change in
your life. You felt like you had been betrayed by her and avoided her for several days, rarely talking to her.
With all of this going on in the past couple months, you found yourself
wanting to know more about your real parents. If you looked like your Mom or maybe
your Dad. Just who they were exactly. You found yourself walking down the street and
looking at people passing by and wondering if they could be them. You had decided to
write to People Search America, but kept it a secret from Mom. You didn’t want her to
be upset by you even more.
It was now getting close to the end of October. Actually, in two days it
would be Zac’s 13th birthday. Lazily rolling out of bed, you wander down the stars to
the mailbox, hoping that something else would be there besides college applications
and brochures.
You had received a few different letters. One was postmarked out of Tulsa,
with no return address. Another was from Devon back in Chicago and a final one
from..... People Search. As soon as you realize that the letter could change everything
from now on, your whole body goes numb and you feel light headed. You quickly
shuffle it to the end of the stack, ignoring it for now. You turn around and head inside
the house and up to your room for some privacy as you read your mail. The first letter
you open is the one out of Tulsa. And you are surprised by the letters content.
