Chapter 31

You are ready promptly at 7 PM wearing your black dress with a white daisy print. It has little black straps and cuts a little higher then the knee. You slip your black flats on and check your hair and makeup one more time before you start pacing in your room. Isaac was late and it had you worried. He was always there to pick up about 5 minutes before the time he would tell you.

“You look nice tonight. I wish Tay would have done something for me.” Devon says to you as she comes around the corner from her parents room. You give her a smile. “Shouldn’t he be here by now?”

“Yeah. He has me worried. Do you think I should call his house and see what has happened?”

“Nah. He’ll be here before we know it. So what is the special occasion anyways?” She asks you giving an inquiring look.

“I’m not sure myself. He didn’t say much on the phone. Something about this being my last night. I can’t believe we are leaving Devon. It’s going to be so hard saying goodbye.”

“I know. I told Tay goodbye last night and not to come tomorrow morning. It would be too hard for the both of us.”

You walk over to her and pick up her hand. “You going to be okay?”

“Yeah,” just as she answers, you hear a knock at the door. “That must be him. Look, I’ll go in the other room so you two can have some privacy.”

“No, that’s okay. You can stay. We are going to be leaving soon.” You open the door and find it to be Isaac. He looks incredibly nice tonight. His long blonde locks were down, hanging just a little in his face and he had a white shirt on with a black jacket type thing over top and black leather pants.

“Hello,” he breaths and walks in and closes the door.

“Hey. So what is the surprise?” You ask him and lightly kiss his lips.

“Bad news. I got an e-mail from Ashley, you remember him? Anyways, he sent me a letter telling me that his mother has taken ill and is in the hospital.” Isaac had paced around in the room and avoided your question. He stopped to look at the evening sky.

“I am sorry to hear that Isaac. What’s wrong with her?”

“They aren’t totally sure. He said that the doctors don’t think it isn’t something they can’t help her with.”

“Oh, that’s good. I hope she gets better soon.”

Isaac walks over and is holding onto your shoulders and looking deep into your eyes. “I am sorry to bring up bad news right off the bat.”

“That’s okay. I just hope she will get better.”

“Me too,” Devon pipes in.

He sighs, “You ready to go?”

“Yeah, let me grab my purse,” you walk over to the couch and pick it up and hold your hand out to Isaac.

“Let’s go.” Taking hold of your hand, Isaac says goodbye to Devon and the two of you walk downstairs to his car.
