Chapter 28
“Christina? Why are you crying?”
“Well....” you debate quickly in your head if you should burden him the facts of the
incident.
Just as you begin to talk about him, Isaac sticks his head in the room. “Mind if I join
you two?” He asks.
“Sure, come on in.” You half whisper back to Isaac. He takes a seat in the rocking
chair behind you.
“That’s Kevin,” Mackie points to him and addresses Isaac.
“He had a few questions about him. I was just ready to answer them.”
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I know it would be hard.” He places his
hand on your shoulder.
“No, I think it’s better to talk about him.Anyways,” You swallow hard, realizing that
there is no easy way to tell him. “He recently passed away.”
“He just did. I am really not sure myself.” As you answer his question a tear runs
down your face.
“It’ll be okay,” Mackie gives you a hug. “he is in heaven looking over you with
Grandma. Ain’t that right Ikey?”
“Yes Mackie, that’s right.” Isaac agrees with his brother. Just hearing the words
made you want to cry more. It was so sweet of him to say them and you lightly give him
a hug back.
There is a slight knock at the door. “Dinner is ready,” Taylor says as he lightly
pushes the door open. Mackie shoots downstairs like a cannon ball out of a cannon.
“Let’s go eat,” you whisper to Isaac with sad eyes and take hold of his hand. The
two of you make your way downstairs.
