Chapter 27

You walk into Mackie’s bedroom and see that there is a corner in his room totally devoted to toys. Scattered all over the floor are many matchbox cars, legos, toy soldiers, coloring books, and children’s books. You set your purse in the rocking chair in the corner of the room and you and Mackie walk over to his little pre-school table in his room.

“Do you color?” He asks you. How cool is that! Growing up you loved coloring and spent a lot of time doing so.

“Yes I do. Is that what you want to do?” Mackie shakes his head yes and grabs 2 coloring books off the shelve and lets you pick which one you want. You make your selection of a Winnie-the-Pooh book and pick up a crayon. Opening the book to a page that has Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger too on it, you ask Mackie if he’d like to help.

“Yeah!” He exclaims. But after about 10 minutes of coloring, he quickly looses interest and asks you what you have in your purse.

“Well.... I have pictures of my friends and a wallet. Various other things.”

“Can you show me the pictures?” He asks this with the innocence that only a 4 year old can posses.

“I think we can do that.” You walk over and sit down in front of the rocking chair. Mackie sat in your lap.

You open your purse and pull our your wallet that holds the pictures. The first one you see is the picture of you and Kevin at his Senior Prom. Right away, Mackie has inquired questions about the pictures. Not wondering too much about you in the picture, but of the boy you are with.

“That’s.... an old friend of mine.... his name is Kevin. He was a sweet boy. Just like you.” You tell him as you get tears in your eyes.
