1998 Walleye Charter
These are the choice pictures of our wonderful walleye charter experience this year!
I should say first off that this trip was a direct result of meeting some great people in the online community found at The Fishing Network (www.the-fishing-network.com). This is an excellent and highly recommended site to visit if you are an angler!
We fished the 41' 54.00 south to 41' 56.266 north. This comes out to a little over 2-1/2 miles north by south. The east by west numbers were 81' 12.084 west to 81' 04.817 east, which is about 5.4 miles. We fished primarily in 71-72 ft. of water, and started at 6.5 miles west by northwest of Geneva harbor, trolling over to approximately 12 miles west by northwest from the Geneva State Park Marina when we turned around just past the point that the two Perry nuclear plant towers line up. We had at least 70+ hookups with all the miscellaneous fish which were released (white bass, sheephead, and one white perch) in addition to the ones we lost! (One very nice walleye escaped due to my poor netting technique, which I was only allowed to demonstrate once. There is a trick to handling that long net, but I didn't get any more chances to try that day...) The fish were almost all caught on worm harnesses on Dipsy Divers set on 2 or 3, and anywhere from 115 to 180 feet back. Planer boards could not be used efficiently due to the heavy seas (they kept flipping over and coming toward the boat instead of away).
It was an excellent day, and we look forward to doing this again next year!
