Updates

11/24/98 The one remaining rainbow shark appears to be stable, now. He is eating well, and roaming the tank like he used to. His fins are a bit ragged, though. I am having to remove some of the surface Fern Stuff (See how much I know about plants? I got them from a friend, and do not know the proper name.), as it is blocking light and interfering with the feeding! The Albino Channel Cats have finally slowed their phenomonal (to me) growth, and are settling down now. Getting ready to add some automatic feeders...

About My Tank

The tank itself was made by All Glass Aquariums, out of .312" (5/16") panes of glass. The bottom is tempered glass, and there are center struts across the frame on the middle top and bottom to prevent bowing. It measures 24" tall, 48" long, and 18" deep. It is powered by twin Marineland Penquin BioWheel 330's, which are rated at 300+gph under optimum conditions. A Whisper 800 air pump provides aeration through two airstones and the four-tube undergravel filter. Due to natural evaporation caused by the substantial surface movement, I add approximately 3 gallons of aged and treated tap water a week to this tank - making water changes virtually unnecessary!! (My living room is kind of humid...)

This picture shows one of the prize fish of the tank - his name is Sharky! He is an Irridescent Shark 10 1/2 inches long. This is the only picture I currently have of this tank. Also shown in the picture is a large Amazon Sword plant in a basket (not planted very well - this has been remedied!), and the 6" brown loach in the bottom right corner of the tank. The rocks are brown lava, and the gravel is brown lava and white granite. (The side of the tank you are being shown is 18" wide - the left (back) wall is NOT shown.)

*This shark was almost an original addition, and he "ran" the tank in his prime. His death prompted the establishment of the Obituary, as I needed a way to commemorate him!
