Arts and Crafts English Dining Table
English Arts and Crafts Dining Table with Removable Top. Inspired from original plans by Designer Ernest Gimson
salvaged from the “British Home of Today”, also edited by Gustav Stickley in the “Craftsman Magazine”.
This table design, originally developed by early English arts and crafts movement pioneer Ernest Gimson, displays the inspirational purity of design and the honest craftsmanship that so inspired the American arts and crafts movement lead by Gustav Stickley and his peers in the early 1900’s. Besides having a distinct style with its octagonal legs and graceful curve of the central braces, the top is removable, making transportation more practical. “Six braces, which keep the top from warping have been dovetailed into the top and are only fastened with a screw at the center, no glue being used, so that the table top can shrink or swell slightly, during cycles of natural expansion and contraction, without doing any harm whatsoever.” This unique method of joinery not common in the furniture of today produces a superior table top able to truly withstand the test of time. Through Mortise and
Tenon Joinery Prevails. Built of native Quartersawn White Oak, this table would be a suitable one
to be used in a large living room or library as well as a spacious gathering table for the family meal.
Measures approx. 96” wide x approx. 42” deep.
