2008 MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION 2009

MCRA-MINUTES-MCRA

ABRIDGED

Regular Meeting – April 28, 2009

President Michael Daly began the meeting at 1:10 pm with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for departed members of the Association. The minutes for the March meeting taken by Joan O’Grady and were read by VP Anne Bedard. They were accepted as read. Treasurer Rose Tysz read the treasurer’s report. A motion to accept the report was made and and seconded. The motion was approved by those present.

Michael mentioned that he and several people from our Association attended Stanley Abrams’ wake and that he saw many former employees present. He mentioned a small anecdote about Mr. Abrams and reflection followed. We were informed that Marjorie Herth has passed away recently and that Evelyn Read is seriously ill.

Our recent newsletter “News From Home” was praised. Comments received from membership on the News Letter were read. Michael mentioned that election of officers will take place at the June meeting. Those willing to serve will be listed at the May meeting.

May 18, 2009 will be the awards ceremony at Newfield H.S. and June 6th at Centereach, H.S. Michael will make both presentations. Names of the two $1000.00 winners will be published in the next newsletter.

Middle Country Education Foundation will once again be awarded $250.00 by the MCRA at their Annual Golf Outing. We usually sponsor a hole on the golf range. Joan asked if we will donating money to the K of C for their golf outing as we did last year. Since Fred Fitz asked us last year and he has now passed away, should we donate again in his memory? It was decided to wait to see if the K of C asks us and then MCRA will make a “one time only” donation in Fred’s memory.

A co-secretary is needed to take the minutes for March and April only since Gladys Gregnoli Meirs leaves for Florida in January and doesn’t come back until May. We still have the need since no one spoke up.

Michael informed us that our website had 14,669 hits. Membership is up to 416 paid members all across the country. We need a database set up that will be used for e-mail communications with telephone numbers. Input is no problem since we have many people who can type but we need someone who can set up and manage the database. Michael will look into this himself.

Anne Bedard reminded us that our May 26 meeting will have a change of time. The meeting will begin 10 AM with a brunch provided. The Tax collector for Brookhaven Town will be there to facilitate payment of taxes.

Michael welcomed our guest speakers from “Choice Reverse Mortgage” and a presentation followed.

A motion to end the meeting was made, seconded and approved.

Respectfully submitted, Joan O’Grady, Financial Secretary
