No Fairy Tale - Chapter 3
‘’Home sweet home.’’ Chris sighed walking into the loft apartment as Allison followed. Even while she and Frankie had been dating they had been best friends, closer than the rest. The only one that she had seemed to care about more than Chris was Frankie.
‘’You know it feels like a piece of myself is missing.’’ She sighed, sliding onto the leather couch.
‘’I feel the same way.’’ Chris nodded, sitting down next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
‘’Chris, you guys would still be together if it weren’t for me.’’ A few tears began to well up in her eyes, causing her hazel eyes to close, silent tears spilling out once again.
‘’Don’t blame yourself, Allison.’’
‘’Chris, the accident was my fault. He was in the car on his way to pick me up for our date. I was waiting outside but Jesse came over. We…we kissed, Chris, and Frankie saw us. I was cheating on Frankie with Jesse and he found out. He got pissed off and drove away and got into the accident. I killed Frankie.’’ Chokes escaped from her throat and her shoulders heaved with her heavy sobs. Chris was silent, taking in all the information.
‘’Allison, did you love Frankie?’’
‘’How can you ask me that Chris? You now I did, more than anything!’’ she recoiled from him, standing in front of him now, her breaths shallow, her tears still spilling out of her eyes.
‘’Then why did you do that to him?’’ his voice was quiet, not wanting to upset the girl any further.
‘’Because I’m 17, Chris! I was being pulled into an adult relationship when I’m still a teenager. I’m not in control of my actions. I just didn’t know everything would go so far!’’ She cried, her voice rose in anger, her chest heaving, her feet racing her out of the apartment. Chris stood up, wanting to follow her, but knowing that right now, she’d bet better off on her own.
Allison’s feet pulled her in a general direction, towards the apartment building’s driveway, right towards her pale blue Chrysler Sebring Convertible, a graduation present for her from her parents. She had always been the perfect daughter, the perfect friend, the perfect girlfriend. But the day she and Jesse had been alone, the day their hormones got the best of the both of them screwed her over permanently. But she was driving North of New York City, over the bridge, leading towards upstate New York. After driving for about an hour she should reach Westchester, and she’d reach the person she needed to talk to the most- Jesse.
Greg was sitting on the couch staring at the TV blankly, when his phone began to ring. He sighed and continued to let it ring, not bothering to answer the god forsaken machine.
‘’Hey you’ve got Greg, but I’m not in so leave a message and I’ll call ya later! You know the drill.’’ * Beep*
‘’Greg, it’s Chris. You’ve got to call me back, it’s important. Well I guess…’’
‘’Chris?’’ Greg picked up the phone eagerly, wanting to hear what was so important.
‘’Oh so you are home… what took you so long to answer the phone?’’
‘’Didn’t feel like answering it, honestly.’’ Greg laughed, smiling lightly.
‘’Oh, well I have something really important to tell you.’’
‘’I heard. So what is it?’’
‘’I know why Frankie got into the car accident. And it’s making me feel different about Allison.’’
‘’How can you feel different about her? You love her as much as Frankie did, maybe even more.’’
‘’ Greg she was cheating on Frankie. With Jesse.’’ At that Greg dropped the phone.
Jesse was sitting in his room, his music blaring, staring into space. He hadn’t been the same since Frankie died. He loved Allison, god knows how much he did. But with everything he had realized how much she had loved Frankie. And he screwed all of that up.
‘’Jesse, Allison’s here!’’ his little sister’s voice rang up to his room. He jumped up, checked the mirror and ran downstairs. There she stood, as a light rain began to fall, her face looking as if she was holding back tears. And it was breaking his heart to know that he was the only reason she would ever cry.
‘’Jesse, can you come with me, please?’’ her voice was quiet and choked, she was on the verge of tears. He nodded.
‘’Mom, I’m going out. I have my phone and I’ll be back later!’’ He called back into the house and closed the door before he could hear his mother’s reply. ‘’Where to?’’
‘’I don’t know, but we need to talk Jesse. I told Chris.’’ Jesse nodded.
‘’I know a diner, it’s pretty secluded so we’ll be able to talk. Hey we can work through this, Allison. I love you.’’ He picked her chin up, forcing her eyes to look into his. Tears spilled out of her eyes and she pulled away.
‘’That’s just it Jesse! I don’t know what to feel anymore! The person I loved more than anything is gone and it’s all my fault, Chris probably hates me now, and I’m the reason you all had to break up! I’m sick of pretending I’m okay! I’m sick of trying to be strong!’’ her tears were falling and Jesse was brushing back a few of his own.
‘’Allison, this is hard on me too! Okay, it was my fault. I knew Frankie was coming over that night, but hell I thought you’d want me more than him! I was trying to break the two of you up! I didn’t want to kill him!’’ Allison looked up at him, her face twisted into shock and disgust.
‘’Jesse, I never want to see you again. How you could do that to me makes me sick. Goodbye, Jesse McCartney, have a nice fucking life.’’ She turned away and stepped to her car. She took one last look back at him, shaking her head, tears falling. She got into her car, the top raised, and peeled out of the driveway. Jesse shook his head and sat on his porch the rain falling down onto his head. The list of the loved ones he’d lost was now upped to two. And both of them were his fault
