No Fairy Tale - Chapter 4
Allison sat slumped in her car in front of a diner somewhere just outside of Westchester County, not ready to go home to Chris. He probably hated her after that startling admission. Somebody tapped the window on the outside of the car. She turned around, the person standing so she couldn’t see their face, she only could if she got out of the car. She opened the door and got out, facing a guy about her height, his back turned to her, his sandy blonde hair blowing with the light wind.
‘’Can I help you?’’ she asked quietly, causing him to turn around quickly.
‘’Allison? I didn’t know it was you. Look I’m having some car trouble…’’ Matt was the guy that had turned around, and suddenly their hatred was dead.
‘’I’ll help you. Matt listen, I know we aren’t friends and all that, but can I just talk to you for awhile?’’
‘’Sure. I’m not in any rush, I was actually just going to drive around for a while, but my car battery died. Do you want to join me for a cup of coffee first?’’
‘’Sure. I think we need to figure out why we hated each other anyway.’’ She laughed slightly, brushing back tears of her past, hoping to start something new.
‘’Whoa wait, Chris explain.’’
‘’Greg, Allison was going out with Jesse behind Frankie’s back. Frankie caught them and sped off and got into a car accident. That’s how he died. I love Allison to death and all but, Greg, she killed Frankie.’’
‘’She didn’t mean to. She loved him, she wouldn’t try to do any real harm to him.’’
‘’She said that the only reason she cheated on him was because she was only 17 and she wanted to see other things besides her relationship with Frankie. I think that the relationship was too much on her.’’
‘’Chris, don’t let her do anything stupid. If she looses you she’s lost everything. Just be aware of that. She needs you. And if you make me loose her, I’ll kill you.’’ Greg laughed over the phone.
‘’I know man, I’ll just talk to her when she gets home. Talk to you later, alright Greg?’’
‘’Yeah, later, Chris.’’ Greg laughed and hung up the phone letting all the information sink in. The girl they all loved was proving to be something of a many-headed monster.
Jesse sighed and stalked back into his house, slamming the door on his way in. He was not in the mood to deal with anyone’s shit, too hurt to care about what anyone else had to say. All he knew was that he had to get Allison back somehow. She still loved him, he knew it, she just had to get over Frankie. But he knew that would take too much time. As of now he had to get over her. Nobody dumped Jesse McCartney and let him sulk about it.
‘’Allison, truth be told, I was jealous of Frankie. I guess that I just wanted to be with you.’’
‘’What is it about me that makes you all like this? First Frankie, then Jesse, I know Chris and Greg, and now you Matt… I don’t want this.’’ Allison raised her voice slightly, fresh tears wetting her cheeks.
‘’Wait, explain, please.’’ He smiled gently, brushing back her tears.
‘’I was cheating on Frankie with Jesse. Chris and I are the way we are because he cares about me and that means something to me. That’s the same with Greg and I. Matt, Frankie caught Jesse and me together the night he got into the accident. It was my fault.’’
‘’Allison, I know.’’
‘’What?’’ she looked up at him, tears clouding her vision.
‘’I was there that night. I tried to calm Frankie down, but he was angry, and not at you, at Jesse. Jesse kissed you. He would never be mad at you, Allison, he loved you more than anything Allison, as much as it pains me to say. ‘’
‘’Why didn’t you tell me that you knew?’’
‘’Because I didn’t think you’d want me to know. Plus, I was mad enough at Jesse that he made me loose one of my best friends that I didn’t think about what this was doing to you. I’m just sorry I never gave you a chance to be your friend.’’
‘’Matt, I don’t know what to do. I think Chris’s feelings have changed about me because I told him about that night, and I need him, Matt. Chris is the only other person, besides Frankie, who could take care of me. If he hates me, I’m lost.’’
‘’If Chris loves you as much as I think he does, then you have nothing to worry about. And if that doesn’t work out, you always have Greg and I. We both love you too.’’
‘’Thanks Matt.’’ She smiled slightly and sipped her tea out of the diner’s mug. ‘’I think it’s time for me to go home.’’ She smiled and kissed him on the cheek, slipping out of the booth.
‘’Alright let’s go recharge my car.’’ He smiled and slipped out as well.
‘’Allison?’’ Chris sat up on the couch as he heard the door open.
‘’Chris? I’m sorry about before, you probably hate me, but I am sorry…’’
‘’Allison, don’t worry, you’re the last person I’d ever hate. I had to think, but I realized that everything’s going to be okay. It wasn’t your fault. It never will be.’’ Chris smiled, embracing the girl in front of him.
‘’I talked to Jesse. He wanted to break Frankie and I up… so I told him that I never want to see him ever again.’’
‘’Wait he said that?’’ she nodded. ‘’I’m gonna kill him…’’
‘’Don’t Chris. I talked to Matt, too. We resolved our issues.’’
‘’Well that’s good.’’
‘’Chris?’’
‘’Yeah?’’
‘’Why do you guys all have things for me? Why do you let yourselves care about me, when you know that I’m never going to feel the same about any of you as I did about Frankie?’’ Chris looked at her for a few seconds, devising the right answer in his head.
‘’Because you cared about us in a way that we never felt. You were compassionate about life and everything you did and that made us all fall in love with you. And Greg and I, we knew how you felt about Frankie, and how he felt about you. We would never try and hurt you two. Matt just stayed away for the same reasons. Jesse, however didn’t know how to look, but not touch.’’
‘’Chris?’’
‘’Mhhm.’’
‘’Do you still love me?’’
‘’Of course.’’
‘’Then don’t ever leave me.’’ She slipped her head into the nook of his shoulder and cried softly as they sat on the couch.
