Around Life's Bases - The Bottom Of The Second

Callie hazily looked out the tinted window at the mob of vacationers walking down the Hampton strip, sweltering in the 90 degree heat. Shops and stores were crowded to her right, the beautiful ocean view to her left. She was grateful for the cool stream of air blasting from the air conditioner.

"Traffic, the BEST part of vacation," Mr. Donahue sarcastically muttered under his breath. Impatient drivers from the endless line of cars honked behind him.

"How much longer until we get there, Mr. Donahue?" Frankie politely asked, gently pushing Jesse's sleepy head from his shoulder.

"About 20 minutes."

Chris sighed. He was anxious to meet Heather, and 20 minutes sounded like forever.

"HEY, hey check out the babes!" Matt bolted up and stared at the group of girls crossing from the beach in their swimsuits. Chris gazed out the window, a sly smile creeping onto his baby face. "Maybe 20 minutes won't be too bad after all."

The traffic finally let up and they turned onto Lemmilen Ave. Near the bottom of the beach stood a gorgeous house, three stories tall, with the sparkling, shimmery ocean surrounding them and forming a picturesque background.

"Here we are." Mrs. Donahue turned around and looked at the kids with a warm, welcoming smile. "Make yourself at home!"

There was a mad dash to the front door, and Callie woke up the sleeping Prince Charming with a splash of cold water from her Dasani bottle.

"Hey!" Jesse yelped. He lunged at her, grabbed the cherished Yankees visor that was perched atop her chestnut tresses, and ran out of the car to meet the other guys, who had already entered their magestic castle. It would hold all the memories, good and bad, that were in store for them that summer.
