This Months' Featured Lure!
This is the last month for a lure made in New York City. These beautiful lures were also made in Manhattan by a company called Lido Lures. Made around (circa) 1948 -1950 the top ones a surface swimmer that's 7" long with a beautiful blue/green scale pattern that was probably made to resemble a Mullet. It came with white glass eyes, three 4/0 treble hooks and a stainless steel lip. It's quite rare as far as saltwater lures go. Lido's came in two types of cardboard boxes, the orange one pictured above with the swimmer and the white one pictured below with the swimmer/flaptail. Below that is a flaptail/popper that was made by Lido too. They made these three body styles and a straight popper without the flaptail. I've only seen three or four colors. The paint usually held up well on these lures but the belly stencil didn't. Only the swimmer/flaptail is marked with the company name but you can tell the others are Lido's by the scale patterns and the hardware. As far as I can tell they too were only in business less than five years. For the next few months I'll feature a saltwater lure made by some of the major tackle companies that are the rarer pieces that you don't see very often. After that we'll head up the east coast to the New England area for some more striped bass lures.
