This Months' Featured Lures! This month we're staying in Massachusetts for more great baits for catching Stripers and Bluefish. Made in Wollaston, Massachusetts, by Gamsby's Action Lures this company made several plug models that I'm aware of. Designed by John Gamsby, they were in business from around 1947 thru 1950. The box that they came in is by far one of the greatest looking boxes for a Striper lure that I've ever seen. Just Awesome! These lures and boxes are tough to find. The first one is the most famous lure he made and it is called the "WIG-LIT". It is painted in a striped barber pole type red and white color. It is 9 inches long, weighs 3.5 ozs. and was made as a swimmer. It came with two 3/0 treble hooks that were cadmium plated and a single tail hook tied with a bucktail. The lip is stainless steel and the hardware is a difficult to construct combination of cotter pins and thru-wire. Most of the Wig-Lits I've seen are either marked Gamsby's Wig-Lit or J & H Wig-Lit on the lure belly. It also came in a blue & white barber pole stripe too.
The second, third and fourth lure is pictured below and is called a "Jet Swimmer". The colors are way different than the jointed model. It's only 7 inches long and has one 3/0 treble and one 3/0 double hook on the tail. It weighs 3 ozs. The lip is also stainless steel but this plug is thru-wired instead of having the cotter pin configuration. It's marked on the belly " Jet Swimmer"
Gamsby's also made a plug model called a Wob-Lit that looks something like a Creek Chub Musky Injured Minnow. It's pictured below, thanks Adam for the use of your pictures. This lure has the cotter pin hook hangers, weighs about 3.5 ozs. and is 7" long. The hooks are 3/0 trebles. This is probably the rarest of the Gamsby lures.
Last is a Gamsby "Jet Popper". This lure is constructed like the swimmers with thru-wire construction and the same hook configuration. They are both 6.5" long and weigh about 3 ozs. each. Both are also marked on the belly.
That's all for now, check back in a month or so for another saltwater lure company.
