This Months' Featured Lures!
This month we feature three lures that were made in the mid 1940s by Point Jude Bait Company. Located in Pt. Judith, Rhode Island, this company was right in the heart of Striper territory. The featured lures are large 6 3/4" glass eyed plugs weighing 3 oz. that came with three extra strong 5/0 treble hooks. Two colors are shown, Blue Mullet and Silverflash. Red and White was also available. The lures in the first picture were called the Pug Nose. A surface swimmer, this plug could either be cast into the surf or trolled from a boat. You could also bend the lip to make it swim underwater according to the catalog. The second picture features a plug called the Cape Codder. It came in the same finishes and sizes and the Pug Nose. The third picture features a flaptail called the Surf Slapper. It has the same body style as the Cape Codder and came in two lengths and weights. The one pictured is the 6 3/4" / 3 oz. model. It was also available in a 6" length and 2 1/4 oz. The last picture shows a copy of the catalog that came with their lures.
As an addendum to last months lures, pictured below is a very early example of two Pt. Jude Striper "X-Pert" lures. On the left is a diving swimmer/darter type and on the right is a surface swimmer. The box belongs to the surface swimmer and has the same number classification as the Cape-Codder. I've also added some specials that I forgot to list the first time around. Click on link below.
