This Months' Featured Lure!
This beautiful lure was made in Manhattan by Charlie Russo on the lower east side of New York City. Made around 1948 -1950 it's a surface swimmer that's 8' long with a beautiful green scale pattern. With amber glass eyes, three large treble hooks and a copper lip it was made to be cast off jetties and the beach for Stripers and Bluefish. This lure is quite rare as far as saltwater lures go and the box is even rarer. Russo made other type of lures for Stripers too. Flaptails, poppers, sub-surface swimmers to name a few. From what I've been told by Frank Pintauro who is an authority on the subject, they were in business about ten years starting just before the war and ending around 1950 or so. I will try to list another Charles Russo lure in the future.
