Shinji Ikari: The main character of Evangelion. Ever since he was a child, he's been an emotional shut-in, a wreck. His mother died when he was young and his father began to neglect him after that. Shinji is the Third Child, and is the pilot of Evangelion Unit 01. Shinji makes attempts to open himself later in Evangelion. Though disrought throughout his life, he does seem to care for other people, most notably the three women around him.

Rei Ayanami: The First Child, and the pilot of Evangelion Unit 00. Rei is an emotional wreck. She's very introverted, meaning she is not a social person. She has always been the "doll" and test pig for Gendou and NERV. The only person she ever had a feeling for is her "master" Gendou, but feelings seem to grow in favor of Shinji.

Asuka Soryu Langley: Unlike the emotionally challenged people in the series, is an emotionally overcharged character. She is extremely overconfident. However, the use of her ego and confidence to cover up her grueling past. Asuka is the Second Child, and is the pilot of Evangelion Unit 02.

Misato Katsuragi: Misato is another person with an emotionally disrought past that she wanted to forget. Her problems even drag into her relationships which effects them. Misato is the surrogate mother of Shinji who gives him a home after he moves to Tokyo-3.

Gendou Ikari: A very, very complex person. He is the Nerv commander. Gendou loved his wife, but neglected his only son, Shinji. He is very mysterious and his true intensions are unknown. Few people actually know what's going on.

Ritsuko Akagi: A scientist belonging to the first section of the Techology Bureau of the Technology Development Department in Nerv. She is the daughter of the woman who created the MAGI, Dr. Naoki Akagi. She's been a friend of Misato since college years. She also engages in a dangerous relationship with Gendou.

Kaji Ryouji: Kaji was Misato's lover in college and again when he was transfered to NERV's main branch in Tokyo-3. He was in love with Misato Katsugari, they often fought when they were together. He tried to find the truth about Seele and Nerv. After he died, he left everything he found out behind for his lover to find.

Kaworu Nagisa: The Fifth Child, was born on Sept. 13, 2000, the day of the Second Impact. He became friends with Shinji and soon excelled at the synchro-tests with the Eva-02. When it became clear that he could synchronize with any Eva just by wishing it, Misato found out that he was the last Angel. Kaworu, being the 17th Angel, allowed himself to be killed by Shinji so that mankind could live on. Shinji regreted what he had done.

Touji Suzuhara: The Fourth Child. Touji is a person who focusses his emotions toward his short temper. He was quick to anger, but he was a fierce friend to those who earned his trust. He loved his sister and hated Angels for hurting her in the fight between Eva 01 and Sachiel. The only reason that he became the Fourth Child was so that his little sister could be transfered to NERV's special hospital within Geofront. He lost his left arm and left leg when his Eva-03 was infected with Bardiel, the 13th Angel and fought with Eva-01.

Kensuke Aida: Kensuke is a friend of Touji's and quickly became one of Shinji's friends. The trio often relies on each other. He's a military fanatic who carries his camera around with him everywhere hoping to get a glimpse inside of Nerv.

Hikari Horaki: Hikari is probably the only hardworking person in Shinji's class, which explains her position as the class representative. Hikari is a close friend of Asuka's. An odd fact is that she has a crush on Touji.

Pen^2 (or Pen Pen): Next to Haro from Gundam, Pen Pen is the coolest character in all of anime! (Not really . . .) As Misato's best friend, he lived inside her fridge and occasionally mingled with Shinji and Asuka. He kept to himself most of the time prefering the TV or the icebox to human contact. Misato sacrificed a lot for him to keep him safe and happy, but she appreciated it more than he actually let on.

Kozo Fuyutsuki: The Sub-Commander of Nerv and probably the only friend of Gendou Ikari. He actually knows what the hell is really going on throughout the series. He is much friendlier than Gendou towards the people who work at Nerv. However, this doesn't keep him from keeping Nerv's secrets secret.

Keel Lorenz: The Chairman of Seele and the man who came up with the Human Instrumantality Project. From what we have seen, Keel has been living for long over a hundred years. He also only cares for the evolution of man.

Yui Ikari: Yui Ikari is the wife of Gendou and the mother of Shinji. She was a very loving person who loved her husband and child very much. She was a student of Kozo Fuyutsuki and a good friend of his. Yui died in an accident with Unit 01 where her soul became a part of Unit 01.

Maya Ibuki: The technical assistant of Dr. Ritsuko Akagi. Maya has a lot of respect for Ritsuko referring to her as "sempai". Maya is in charge of almost anything Eva related. She often gets the sycnhronization ratios of the children and keeps things that have to do with the MAGI in check.

Aoba Shigeru: The central military operator. Aoba often works with Maya and Hyuga during Angel attacks. Not much is known about him other than that he is very knowledgable and likes guitars.

Hyuga Makoto: Hyuga is the assistant strategist in Nerv and often helps Misato. He is often seen with Maya and Aoba at central Nerv. He is also a multitasker for the MAGI. Later on, he helps Misato and Kaji discover some of Nerv's secrets.
