Some of my favorite movies...will eventually be updated.

mission:impossible-2 | the matrix | the phantom menace

Nyah and Sean

Ethan on his bike
Mission: Impossible 2

Starring: Tom Cruise, Dougray Scott, Thandie Newton, Richard Roxburgh, and Ving Rhames

Storyline: Tom Cruise is back as agent Ethan Hunt. He's trying to stop Sean Ambrose (Scott), a traitor of the IMF, from releasing a horrible disease, chimera, that can kill all of mankind. He bargains with a major biotech company also to try to make millions from the disease. Ethan calls back computer wizard Luther Stickwell to help stop Sean. Nyah Hall (Newton), Sean's ex and a famed jewel thief, joins Hunt's team also. Ethan uses her by sending her to Sean to try to find out about the his plans. Ethan falls in love with her along the way. Lots of stuff from the first movie, like the face masks. M:I-2 is directed by John Woo, and includes many stunts, like a motorcycle chase, a fight between Sean and Ethan, and of course a shootout, and other stuff(can't give anything away...)

Review: The plot is dull compared to its predecessor, and very typical of an action movie, but the stunts are unique. There are many expected twists in the story, but there are some surprises. There's quite a range of scenes: action, drama, mystery, and even humor, but the best part was the action. There are also many scenes that keep you at the edge of the seat, wondering what's going to happen. John Woo is an extraordinary director and his action sequences are exciting to watch. Go see this movie cuz it's a hell lot of fire and fun.

The Matrix

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano

Storyline: This movie has a complicated plot. It is about a guy named Neo (real name Thomas Anderson) who discovers that the world isn't what it seems to be. People live in "the matrix", and everything that you think is real (what you touch, see, taste...) is actually just computer signals fed into your brain. Your brain interprets it as real. Reality is a ruined, deserted, and sun-less world that is controlled by artificial intelligence. These robots keep humans frozen while collecting energy from them to live, using them as batteries. The Matrix is the system of control that keeps the humans sedated. Anyway, Neo is freed by a group of people who rebel against these robots. Their leader is Morpheus, and he believes that Neo is "The One" who will destroy the Matrix. Neo starts to learn about the "real" world, and trains for the beginning of the fight against the Matrix. He eventually goes into the Matrix to see an Oracle and to fight the agents, computer-generated supermen who control inside the Matrix.

Review: This is one of the best science fiction movies ever. The directors, the Wachowski brothers, are very imaginative and create such an incredible, and even believable, universe. The plot is just as thrilling. Right from the beginning you will be hooked. The special effects are very, very cool. The set designs are creative, though I think a little too bleak. There's also many kung-fu fighting scenes which are exciting (despite the fact that they look rehearsed). AND the movie has just won FOUR oscars for sound, sound editing, visual effects, and film editing. My advice is to run out and buy the DVD (cuz it's much better than tape) now.

There are going to be two sequels to the movie. The Matrix 2 is coming out Winter of 2002. Rumor has it that Jet Li has just signed into the movie! The Matrix 3 is coming out June 2003. The end of The Matrix 2 is going to be a cliffhanger, which will continue into the second sequel. Can't wait!
