Psalm 71
Topic: Psalms

I love this psalm; it certainly speaks to me!

"O God, you have taught me since I was young

and to this day I tell of your wonderful works.

And now that I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not

                       forsake me,

till I make known your strength to this generation

and your power to all who are to come.  vs. 17-18

I HAVE felt Jesus' presence since I was very young; it was my need to "make known" God's strength to this generation that send me to seminary.  I try to live in such a way that people can tell I have something special in my life (besides Dave and Snuggles, that is), like my Grandma Nichols.  I hope I succeed.

Psalm 72
Topic: Psalms
"He shall redeem their lives from oppression and violence, and dear shall be their blood in his sight."  v. 14.  "Their lives" refers to the poor.  For all the terrible things humans do to each other, I think oppression, violence, indifference to the poor are on the top of God's list.  Money and power have ruled the earth since the beginning, and we just get more sophisticated at it.  It is the poor who suffer from our arrogance and indifference always.

Psalms 61 & 62
Mood:  happy
Topic: Psalms

For you have been my refuge; a strong tower against the enemy." 61:3

For me the enemy has always been depression.  When I was younger--until around 45--I worried that I would develop my Mom's bi-polar disease.  I discovered that even though I did get depressed, I ALWAYS CAME OUT OF IT.  When I realized this, the depression never scared me again.

"Put your trust in him always, O people; pour out your hearts before him, for God is our refuge." 6 2:9  These two quotes have been my by-words since that discovery.  I use a portion of 61, together with portions of others, as the cruciform beads on my prayer beads.

"You are my rock and my stronghold, a strong tower to keep me safe.   Hold me in the palm of your hand; hide me under the shadow of your wing."  I say at each of the cruciform beads.

Now Playing: Trying this all out
Topic: Psalms

OK.  Now I have the font, and the size.  Is there anything else I want to change?

My idea is to read MP, take a line from the daily Psalm, write a short meditation, then an update of where we are and what we are doing.  Longer ruminations would remain in my journal.  I really am not sure how this will all work.
