6:08 PM I'm still recovering from an old-fashioned stomach bug. Ugghh! I get sick so seldom that I'm quite annoyed when I do. I feel much better, although food doesn't appeal to me as yet. Probably I'll be OK to go to work tomorrow, however!

Random Thoughts

Looking out the window next to my computer, I see an angry sky, with dark clouds being pushed along by strong winds. The naked lilac branches look spooky against the dramatic sky. Here and there are light spots with a bit of pink in them. They are tantalizing reminders that behind all that gloom is a sunset, somewhere.

I've had a couple spaced-out days. I drifted in and out of sleep all day yesterday, and it wasn't until about 3:30 a.m. that I began to feel human again. I had a couple spoonfuls of orange sherbert that DB had gotten me the night before. I felt like I could face a REAL sleep, then, and did, until about 7:20 in the morning.

I lay in the guest room bed, thinking about staying home from church, but finally got up and showered. S-L-O-W-L-Y, I got dressed and decided I could make it to church. I had altar duty today, and hated to let my team down completely.

And I'm so glad I went. We had the "Fools for Christ", a clowning group, at the service. They are so impressive. Last time they came, about 3 years ago, they did the passion liturgy. Today was a "standard" liturgy, as if anything could be standard when led by clowns. The lead clown began the gathering to worship by sitting at a table in the chancel, putting on his makeup. He had explained that liturgical clowns wear white face to signify the death of "self" in baptism, and red and black color to signify the resurrection.

It was fascinating to watch him make up. The children were no more enthralled than the rest of us. Once he was in his "face", the liturgy began. It was all done in mime after that. The sermon was "Sinbag"; a clown with chains wrapped around his feet, dragged in a huge bag in which were "bricks" with the 7 sins printed on them. Each of the was taken out of the bag by a clown and put on the arms of a big wooden cross. I think even the younger ones got that sermon!

Then the Great Thanksgiving, in which the story of Jesus birth, death and resurrection is retold. It was so well done by them. We ended with the clowns serving the communion to us, and then they passed out balloons, as we clapped in time to "Celebrate".

As much as I enjoyed the whole thing, it wore me out, and I went back to bed when I got home, again drifting in and out of consciousness. I am up for the evening, so I guess I'm recovering.

Life is good again. Thanks be to God. Amen.
