~Email Me!~

8:01 AM Remember the hopeful gushing about the irises and the woodpecker and the purple finches last entry? I left for Big City shortly after I uploaded that entry, and my drive home--2 hours of it--was in slushy, slippery, causing-cars-to-slide-off-the-road, total whiteouts, SNOW! That's spring around here. Here you have it, here you don't. Last night it went down to 10 degrees, again. But the sun is out this morning, and the sky is an incredible blue. (And there is a fly in this room; where did HE come from?!)

This and That

Yesterday was a series of goof-ups. To begin with, the speaker who was to regale my CDA class with information about how children acquire a second language FORGOT! We finally got ahold of him, and, full of apologies, he arrived two hours late. He was only part of what I had planned for the 6-hour training, so I was able to adjust and work around it. However, the extra people who were invited to hear his presentation couldn't hang around and wait. So several people were upset; and of course, they blamed me. Such is life.

Our administrative assistant gave me my envelope with the per diem check, hotel check, and tickets for the trip to Albany this Sunday. I didn't open it until I was on my way back to the office, which is 25 miles away from North City, where I did the training. No tickets. "Well, maybe they are electronic," I thought, hopefully. I called back to North City. Nope! She forgot to pick them up. So here I am, 25 miles away; it will be too late to get them if I drive back up there (which I wasn't going to do), and they couldn't be picked up on Saturday. So, admin ass't has to bring them down here to me today. I'm trying to feel bad for her, but I can't muster up any sympathy.

Later: 3:00 p.m.

Still no sign of or word from admin ass't. about the tickets. Bleep!

DB and I walked down to the local lunch palace to eat (answering machine on to catch any calls). The breeze is stiff and cool off the lake, but the sun is warm. The irises are poking up through the snow, which is melting rapidly. A few hardy croci are also pushing through the snow. Nature is persistent, whether she is dropping late winter snow, or pushing up early spring bulbs. When I return from Albany, I'm going to cut a few branches of forsythia to open in the house. And I have to rescue my geraniums from the basement.

I haven't spent much time planning the garden this year, which is very unusual for me. I think the general malaise from being too tired all the time has sapped my energy. But this afternoon, while cleaning out old magazines to take to school for the children, or to put out for recycling, I found renewed interest in putting together a list of seeds to order. I have a good lot left from last year; but there are some new things I'd like to try and a couple old favorites I'm out of.

So a little more of the blanket slipped off my shoulders today. Thanks be to God. Amen
