It's a beautiful day in San Francisco, and I have spent the entire day so far indoors reading Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible. It's fascinating in a disturbing kind of way. I really wonder what is ahead for white folks, after all these centuries of misusing, misleading, and misunderstanding persons of darker skin. The very funny show that Big Son's new production company chose for its premier performance deals with how Hispanics view this culture. I will go tonight to see it again, as I enjoyed it very much. DB will stay home and entertain Grandson, or the other way around. No doubt they will play cribbage, the family card game. It has been a lazy visit, as the family has been very busy and DB and I have been on our own this week. We needed that lazy, quiet time, however, so we haven't minded. We started out our visit with the owner of our favorite bed and breakfast, where we spent our first night. She is an interesting person, having been born and brought up in Switzerland, but living here all of her adult life. We have had several of Big Son's delicious meals; not the least of which was this morning's breakfast of scrambled eggs, wonderful SF bread, chicken-and-apple sausage for the meat-eaters, fresh sliced mangoes and oranges, and a wonderful spinach and arugula salad with balsamic dressing. So it was as beautiful to look at as it was delicious to eat. We are going to have an early meal when the guys get back from the gym, so that DB and I can go to a service at the experimental church, St. Gregory of Nyssan, in Potrero Hill. Mrs. Priest told us to be sure to attend a service there, as it's very different. We spent a nice day yesterday exploring the outside of the church, but never found the office so that we could have a tour. We drove then to the marina to walk along the bay. It amazes me how DB gets around SF with Big Son's car. I never know where I am, but he has SF all figured out. The day before, we walked around the Haight, and I went to my favorite book store. We finished off that exploration with a Ben and Jerry's, then walked home through the Panhandle park. Everything is very green, as it has rained and rained here. We have been lucky to have a couple days without rain; just warm sun. We leave tomorrow at 7:25a.m. I have a new Grafton mystery to keep me company on the long flight home.
I figured out how to get my "advanced" codes into this file without my desk top, but after I had written an entire entry, when I went to safe after reviewing, the file was gone! So this is a second try. I hope it works.
