When designing a homepage the search for good graphics can be a very time consuming process. First of course it is important to know that there are 2 types of graphics that WEB-TV can use. These are called "GIFS" & "JPGS".

Some sites have wonderful graphics, however they are not "WEB-TV Friendly". Let me explain. Many sites are built for computers to use. In these sites they will tell you to "Double Click " on the image and then "Save AS". Obviously WEB-TV can not save graphics and we can not click on an image unless it has been "HIGHLIGHTED" through the use of HTML. On sites we can use, the image will be Highlighted with the Yellow box around it. When you click on that image, it will take you to a full screen version of the graphic. Once you have JUST the graphic on the screen, then it is possible to get it's address, or URL. This is where a little expertise is needed in order to get the graphic moved to your homepage.

We have all heard of the terms "DOWNLOAD" & "UPLOAD". Uploading is the process of taking an image and placing it in our memory. Downloading is the oposite, Placing the image on a selected homepage. Now how in the world can WEB-TV users do this without a memory???? Well the fine folks at STAR BOULEVARD have created a system called TRANSLOADING especially for us WEB-TV USERS!!!!!! Through transloading, you will be UPLOADING the image to their memory, and then they will DOWNLOAD it to your selected homepage site FOR FREE!!!!!!!

Below are links to great paes of graphics. If you are intrested in learning how to Transload graphics, I have given some step by step instructions after the links below, Just scroll down to the bottom of the page. Plan on spending a great deal of time enjoying all these graphcs!!

All Homepage hosts such as Angelfire, Tripod, or Geocities have graphics to use. These are usually very common graphics and not ones that will catch the eye of your visitors. Therefore on the links below I have listed some sites that are either very unusual, or have a great collection of gifs to use. However: any graphic you upload to your files will use up valuable space... Be selective!!! Graphics used from your Homepage server do not use up space. So to get you started here is the TRANSLOADER ADDRESS

TRANSLOADING INSTRUCTIONS

Here is a list of instructions on how to preform this process. I myself am use to working on the ANGELFIRE homepage server so I will use them as my example. If your homepage is on some other server you should read the instructions or the FAQ's to see if there are any major differences( I don't think there are). For this quick lesson I am going to use KYL's Medevial Gifs as an example.

1) Find a Gif you like

2) Click on the highlighted image so you see just that graphic on your screen(***IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of these Graphics are drawings in Black lines, They will not show up against the Black background on screen, however they are there, TRUST ME!)

3) Press the GO TO button

4) Click on "SHOW CURRENT"

5) A Long Address(URL) will appear in the box on screen.

6) Press the CMD key and hold it down while you press the A key. The address will become HIGHLIGHTED.

7) Next press the CMD button and hold it down while you press the C key (COPY)

8) Now go to the Transloader site at Star Boulevard (HINT: Program this into one of your Shortcut keys;f1-f7)

9) Now once at the transloader you will go to the box labeled "SOURCE URL" Erase any address in the box

10) Now Press the CMD Button and while holding it down press the V key (paste) The address of the graphic will appear in the box.

11) Next Rename the file- something short, remember to end with .gif

12) Next box will say FTP SERVER: In Angelfire's case it is "ftp.Angelfire.com". If you se another server look up their ftp address in the FAQ's

13) In the box labeled TARGET ACCOUNT NAME type in "anonymous"

14) in the TARGET ACCOUNT PASSWORD BOX type in your E-mail address.

15) In the UPLOAD DIRECTORY box type in /incoming

16) Now scroll down untill you see 4 boxes: one says TRANSLOAD, one says RESET, one says SAVE COOKIES, one says ERASE COOKIES. CLICK on SAVE COOKIES: This will save all the information you just typed in, so the next graphic you transload, all you need to change is the SOURCE URL and the RENAME FILE, all the other info will stay the same.

17 Click on TRANSLOAD

18) Wait a few seconds and the screen will change. Follow the instructions.

19) Once you can scroll down to the ZAP box on the screen, you have sucessfully sent the graphic to your homepage server.

20) Now go to your homepage edit page

21) Type in the FILE name you renamed the graphic to

22) Click on ACTIVATE FILE:

23) YOU ARE DONE!!!!

The Graphic is now in your homepage files and ready to be used where ever you want it!

So this may seem like a HUGE amount of work for 1 graphic, but really in time, with some practice you will be able to transload a picture in about 1-1½ minuets. Not too much time for a nice touch to your Creation. Why do we do this????? Well to use a graphic without uploading it to our homepage Files is called BANDWIDTH THEFT: This practice has caused alot of problems for people and places unnecessary traffic the site that you found the graphic on. Please learn this process if you want to use other's graphics. Trust me, I have just given you the results of about 3 weeks of frustration in this lesson. I had no one to help me, so in the spirit of Good karma I am passing it on to you.
