Day 5
Saturday June 24, 2016
We slept in way too late today. I haven't been sleeping well the last few days. Probably from working the night shift and then staying up 24 hours on day one. I'll eventually get caught up.
It was casino time and some video poker action. Like yesterday we hit the 3/5/10 plays again. We started with 5 play and I just got my ass kicked. I was just getting way too many hands with no pay outs at all. Dee on the other hand was doing well hitting lots of quads including aces and some bonus quads and a straight flush. I busted out and bought in again this time doing a little better hitting aces and a few other quads as well as a straight flush. I was still getting way too many hands with no pay out though. We took a break for lunch and between us we were up $100.
For lunch we went to the Promenade Cafe. Dee had a California scramble and I had the Asian Chicken Salad. The food was good and was standard issue for the place.
After lunch it was back to the video poker action. This time we played Spin Poker. This was the opposite of the 5 play. Dee was getting her ass kicked and I was doing well. She was almost busted out and switched to double – double and popped 2 sets of aces to get back into it. I wasn't hitting many quads but got quite a few dealt winners to keep alive. We cashed out even and moved.
The next bank we played was 10 play. Again Dee was getting her ass beat and I was doing well. I hit aces and various other quads. Dee bled to death and bought in again. She started hitting quads and had one hand with 2 straight flushes (the ultra dreaded A2345). She came all of the way back and actually got ahead. I was up the whole time but started losing. I decided I'd quit with a $200 win and not paying attention played below my quitting point. Hoping for a pair of jacks to get back to where I should be I held RF3 and landed a royal on line #2.
Next for a change of pace we played some dime 10 play and DW44. This was not good. Not much to even mention except for Dee getting dealt a natural quad. If that wasn't bad enough she didn't get a single quint on the draw. We dropped about $350 here in no time at all.
For dinner I had reservations at the Hawthorne Grille. This place replaced the Carmel Room and Ceres and opened up shortly after we were here in December. We were also meeting our friend Norm for dinner here tonight.
I decided on having the 6oz filet with a baked potato. Dee had the Sweet Potato Gnocchi with lobster. The meal was excellent and the service in here is attentive but not snooty. For dessert we ordered a caramel cheese cake and the thing was really tasty. The three of us had a great meal and a good time together and it was good to see Norm again. The tab for 3 of us with entrees, beverages (non alcoholic) a side and 2 desserts was $150.
After dinner Norm headed out and we hit the casino again for more play. This time around it was on Dee's card. We started with 5 play and it was choppy for Dee and I was ahead most of the time. I hit aces but Dee didn't hit much of anything. We quit even between us and moved to another bank.
This time around was a mirror image of the last with Dee holding her own and me getting beat up. We dropped $200 here.
We moved to some 10 play machines and it was just ugly. I even hit aces but it was no match for not getting dealt any winners and not being able to draw a hand. I had an inordinate number of hands with no pay offs at all. I really don't understand how on a 10 play game I can hold a low pair and not score something. Not only that but to have it happen so many times. We dropped about $600 here and moved to single line.
We didn't play long on the single line. We both ran today's free play through and Dee turned her $100 into $75 cash and I turned my $175 into $145.
We played an assortment of penny slots for a while. We had some good runs on a few games and bad ones on others. After over an hour we dropped $40 but had some fun playing.
We moved to a bank of Spin Poker again and Dee again got her ass handed to her dropping $200 in the blink of an eye. I did better hitting a hand with triple aces for a $300 hit. All that did was offset Dee's beating.
We switched to single line again and it was a little smoother. Dee hit a bonus quad and then jacks and got ahead. She played on the winnings the whole time but eventually cashed even. I hovered hitting just one quad but then hit a losing streak and dropped $50.
It was now just after midnight so we finished up the night by running today's free play through the machines. I decided to run it through single line and the $175 in free play became $165 cash. Dee turned her $100 into $140 thanks to a quad and a full house back to back.
It was another long day of gaming action so we came up here to the room and wind down with some TV before bed.
