Day 6
Monday December 17, 2001

I slept in a bit late today and woke up to the sun shining into the room. It looks really nice outside but it’s still kind of cold. The temperatures are supposed to start climbing today and by the end of the week should be near 60. Today’s plan pretty much calls for going over to the Barbary Coast to play some FPDW and get double points.

Over to the Barbary Coast I went in search of FPDW. I had no problem getting a seat and I was off getting 2X points. Things were actually going well here for a change. Really well considering how much bad luck I’ve had the last few days. I started out with a $20 bill and had the credit meter just over $200 but did greedy little me cash out? Hell no. I went from 800 credits down to under 100 in what seems to have been record time. I was down to about $10 on the machine when I was dealt 3 deuces and 5s 7s for a straight flush. Proper play says dump the 5 and 7 and up pops a 9 and the 4th deuce for a $250 hand pay. My biggest win since I’ve been here. I ran my credits down to zero and quit ahead for once. I earned over 7,000 points today.

It was getting towards dinnertime so I went to the slot club to see what I was entitled to. It was either breakfast for 2 or lunch for 1. I’ll take the lunch. For the first time ever since I’ve been going here there was no wait to get into the Victorian Room. I ordered a chicken finger appetizer and a hot open roast beef sandwich. The chicken was good but the roast beef sandwich wasn’t that great. I’ve had better but I’ve certainly had worse.

After lunch I came back to the room and rested for a while. My plan was to go out a little later on and casino hop around center strip. I watched a little Monday Night Football and fell asleep for a while. When I got up I decided to start off at the Flamingo. My plan was to play blackjack and hopefully get out without doing too much more damage to my bankroll. Be careful here if you play blackjack here. They now offer a single deck game but blackjacks pay only 6 to 5. This is bad since they are supposed to pay 6 to 4 (3-2). I was playing blackjack here and things were actually good for a change. I was up around $300. I was doing really well and a new dealer came and wiped out all my profits. I cashed out even plus, I had a dollar token so actually walked away a winner (don’t knock it, the way things have been I’ll take it!).

After cashing out I went and played some triple play jacks or better in quarters. This didn’t work out and I lost another $100. Seems like a real theme this trip.

I left the Flamingo and walked through O’Sheas. This place was pretty busy considering the rest of the hotels I’d been in were pretty slow. They had the same single deck blackjack game here as well as that asinine multi deck game that the Hilton deals and disguises to look like a double deck game.

Next stop was the Imperial Palace. I’ve never really played here so tonight was a first. I started off with some double deck blackjack. Things were working out really good here but I was betting lower limits than I usually do. I was around $100 and lost about half that before I ran away. I then went to craps and lost $40 of the $50 I had won. From here I went to video poker. I tried a $1 9/6 jacks or better and cashed out $50 from that and then moved to some new style bonus deuces game that is horribly short pay but paid huge bonuses for dealt deuces. I got lucky and hit a wild royal and cashed out a little ahead.

It was after midnight now and I was getting hungry so I went up to the Teahouse and ordered the late night prime rib sandwich. It’s now $4.25. It’s not the greatest cut and is usually full of fat. Tonight it was different though. It was actually a very good cut. Very little fat especially in comparison to previous times I had it. I’d say it was as good if not better than the cut I had at the Las Vegas Hilton coffee shop last night. Another thing I noticed this time is I actually got the whole French roll instead of just the bottom part with the meat on top of it.

On my way down the escalator I saw they had the area roped off. They were pulling up the nasty old worn out red carpet that runs up the middle of the casino. I’m not sure if they are replacing the whole carpet throughout the casino or just this main part.

I went back over to O’Sheas and tried some craps. This was a bad idea. I was the only one on the table and didn’t make a point at all. I lost about $25 here since it was only a $3 table.

Since blackjack was pretty good to me at Flamingo before I decided to try again. Things were up and down here and I was starting to get ahead. I just couldn’t seem to get past a certain point. Then as things are starting to do good again, the same dealer that wiped me out before came back. I gave her 3 hands and she had a 20, blackjack, and a 21. I ran away from her as fast as I could. I was able to keep $78 of my profits this time.

Now here I am typing this. It’s about 2am and the Jacuzzi is filling up. I’ll be hopping in there for a few minutes to relax before hitting the sack for the day.

Total win/loss for the day $350 <--- I actually can win!!!
Total comps for the day $68
