Day 3
Today we were up early. Since it’s a moving day we packed up our stuff and then the plan here was to run up to the Cannery and play on their Neighborhood Partners program. This has been one of my favorite promos. We also had some match plays to use here. We had to stop at the booth and get Dee a new card and then I hit the triple/five plays. I simply got killed here. Someone must have broken my personal ATM because it’s been a while since I got beat up like this here. No dealt winners and no quads at all and just feeding bill after bill into the machine. I switched to penny slots for some fun and couldn’t hit a thing here either.
On the way out we wanted to play some match plays. Dee played hers on odd and lost. I went to play mine and the floor man started busting my balls about 1 per 24 hour period per player. I told him I didn’t use the last one that Dee did. He then insisted I show him the book (it was an ACG coupon) and my player’s card and he had to call surveillance. I told him I didn’t need the book, it was 400 pages long and showed him the card but he insisted. I told him to screw it, if he was going to sweat a $10 coupon and make things difficult I’d just leave. I don’t need this type of aggravation from a paranoid floor man. Even the dealer was shaking his head in a amazement about this guy sweating a $10 coupon. Dee’s loss put us at 3 for 9 on coupons so far this trip.
Next up was a stop at the rental car facility to swap rental cars. Today’s rental is from Dollar. I got a great rate of about $73 for the week & $11 a day for a full sized car for the next 10 days. I had just rebooked this rate 3 days ago and saved $36 off the previous price I had and over $100 from the time I booked the original reservation.
What I did was parked in short term parking with the Avis car. Then we went to Dollar to pick up the other car. The plan was to drive the new car into the short term lot so we could swap our luggage without dragging it across the rental car facility.
It’s was tough to give this nice car back to Avis but their rates were WAY too high for the entire rental to keep it. I am a Dollar Express member here and the booth had all my paperwork in order. It was a good thing because the lines inside were a mile long. I wanted a car with satellite radio and low miles so I went car hopping looking at all of them in the full sized row. This is where the bone head play of the day comes into play. I finally chose a Charger with 6000 miles on it. None of them had working satellites so I took the one with the lowest miles on it. I went to start the car and realized it would start wit the keys I was using. I thought I took the keys out of a red one that I checked and ran over to that car and threw the keys in it and got back into mine. There was a huge line up of cars trying to exit Dollar. They had only one booth open and there were about 15 people lined up. This was chaos at its best. Then while we’re sitting in line I realized I didn’t have the keys to the Avis car. Oh shit, THOSE were they keys I threw into the red Charger. Dee went into panic mode and running to every red charger there was. She finally convinced someone that was driving away in it that those were our keys. If it hadn’t been for that long line up I would have never gotten those keys back. A huge thank you to Dee for getting those back and saving a ton of trouble for us!
I spoke to the guy at the booth and he was pretty upset about the lines himself. He said they’d laid off a bunch of people and he was working 14 hour days.
From here we were off to one of Dee’s favorite places. That would be Laughlin, Nevada. I brought her down here during our summer trip and she loved it. Originally we were only going to come here for one night but a pile of offers from the casino made me decide that 2 nights was better than one!
The ride here was uneventful and before I knew it we were turning down Casino Drive. We are staying at Harrah’s Laughlin on a birthday mail offer. It’s good for 2 nights and a complimentary dinner in the Range Steakhouse. They have also sent me other offers for free meals in the café, dining credits, and buffets as well as free play and cash. All these goodies made it worthwhile to stay for the second night!
When we got here we checked in at the diamond check in area. A few weeks ago I e-mailed my host here (who I’ve never met) and asked to be upgraded. When we checked in we were upgraded and were in room 21782, the Robles Suite in the central tower. This is a true suite with a separate living room and bedroom. The living room has a couch, arm chair, coffee table, and wet bar area, 32” TV and a small dining table. The bedroom has a king bed, nightstands, dresser and 32”TV. The bathroom is 2 separate areas. The outer area had dual sinks on the vanity, a jetted tub and a TV. The inside portion of the bathroom has the toilet and a dual headed shower stall.
Once were got settled into the room we hit the Beach Café for a late lunch. One of the coupons they sent me was for 2 free entrees. I had the meatloaf special. This came with soup, green beans, and mashed potatoes. The food and service were excellent and we hit the casino after we ate.
In the casino I had $87 in coupons they sent me so I used those on a variety of penny slots. I didn’t do great but managed to keep alive for the entire afternoon into the evening. Dee was getting her ass kicked pretty good here so e decided to take a break from Harrah’s and went down to the Golden Nugget.
Here we sat down at a $5 single deck blackjack table. This table was pretty good and I was getting lots of good hands. The dealer was busting and when I hit a rarely broke. I got a fair share of blackjacks but not too many double down opportunities. The dealers changed and this guy was hot. If he wasn’t sitting on a 20 he’d drawn one. When I thought about it this guy cleaned my ass out last time we were down here. I colored up with a $315 win.
Dee thought we should go play roulette with he remaining money from the BJ table so I figured why not. This was a $3 wheel so we had some cheap fun. Then we started hitting numbers and on a whim I threw $3 on a 6 and sure enough, it hit. I was doing well for a while but then things went down hill. I cashed out with a $15 win and Dee won like $80.
We left the Golden Nugget and came back to Harrah’s. We played a bit more and I eventually lost the money from the coupons they gave and then a few bucks on top of that. I was ok with tonight’s results though especially after the ass beating at the Cannery.
For a late night dinner we hit the Beach Café again. I had a bacon cheeseburger and skipped the fries. This burger was huge and really good. I’m not a big fan of burgers but I’d get this again. I used points to cover our tab and then we came back up to the room. Since we had jetted tub we filled that sucker up and hopped in for relaxing bath time. We finally called it quits at about 1:30am. While not late for me, this is pretty late for Dee!
Total win/loss for the day -$100
Total comps for the day $211
