Grandmother Moon

Grandmother Moon

Today is the new moon for February. For me that means that tonight is a night for ritual. Each month I perform ritual to connect with and honor the energies of Grandmother Moon. This is an important part of walking my path. Here are some of the whispers of Moon energy that have come my way - perhaps Grandmother Moon in one of her many cycles has something for you too.

Grandmother Moon speaks to the female energies within for all of us in her triplicity of maiden/mother/crone. She teaches us to gently work with the ebb and flow of our life - to honor our various times of transition. When we choose to work within the framework of her energies, she smooths the path for us.

There are eight phases to Grandmother moon - Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, Waning Crescent and New Moon. The two phases generally worked with are the New Moon and the Full Moon. The whispers of Grandmother Moon tell us what each phase can bring into our lives.

The New Moon is a time of new beginnings - decisions made and actions taken at this time will grow in strength. This is the time to place energy seeds in your life - the time to start a business, sign a contract or place thoughts of that which you wish to draw to you. This is Grandmother in the guise of maiden.

The Waxing Moon is that time between when the New Moon is first seen and when Grandmother Moon reaches her peak power as the Full Moon. The is a constant increase of lunar energy here - useful for anything that is in the building stages.

The Full Moon is the height of energy for Grandmother Moon. Work done with this energy is work of bringing things to completion. This is Grandmother in the guise of Mother.

The Waning Moon is Grandmother drawing her energy back within herself. It is a time of introspection - of gathering energies. This is a time for regrouping.

The Dark of the Moon is Grandmother in the guise of Crone. All of her energies are now being internalized - withheld from her children, waiting for a new cycle to begin.

To each Moon is attributed an astrological sign. To honor Grandmother Moon and do your highest work, look at two things - the phase of the Moon and the astrological sign.

Virgo: organization and detail
Libra: peace and harmony, relationship
Scorpio: This is an intense time - be wary of judging others here.
Sagittarius: Let the details go - see the big picture.
Capricorn: work/career/ambition
Aquarius: be open to new experiences
Pisces: dream of what can be
Aries: a time of co-operation and new projects
Taurus: take a deep breath - enjoy the beauty of nature
Gemini: communications and family are highlighted
Cancer: emotions related to family
Leo: a time to socialize

Please enjoy your time with Grandmother Moon.
