The Fashion Plate for dolls, Vol. 1, No. 3

FROM THE DESK OF

Shirley R. Heater

October-November-December 2000

As the Holidays approach, there is much to be thankful for. The value of health and life taken for granted can burst forth to our attention unexpectedly with the loss of loved ones, illnesses or broken bones. Each moment is precious—each person to be treasured—My lessons from 2000. My response: live every moment intentionally, stopping to smell the roses (i.e., play dolls!). My sincere wishes to all of you for a blessed holiday season.

Please note my new email address: srheater@earthlink.net, resulting from changing my regular dial-up connection to cable modem. While it is much faster, in the meantime I have experienced problems accessing my website which I have yet to unravel, short of completely redoing my website! (I need patience! Right now! Haha)

I'm finding little pockets of time to sew and work on new designs. My newest "On the Runway..." design introduces "Mrs. Santa Clause" for Gene, featured on the cover of this issue. "From the Archives" spotlights additional pattern booklets from the early beginnings of Mini-Fashion Boutique, including "Pajama Party" (Barbie, Francie, Skipper & Tutti), "Tiny Thumbelina Christening or Blessing Wardrobe" and "Newborn Thumbelina Layette."

"Nostalgia" begins a series on changes to some of our favorite dolls. "Pattern Layout" continues the series in "Keeping You in Stitches." And in "Reader's Corner" Barbara Fowler instructs us on the care of vintage fabrics in a special feature article.

Coming in 2001: Ken's 40th birthday (free pattern—a surprise!), the basic body blouse (free pattern), new Gone With The Wind patterns, a Princess Diana collection, "Matinee Fashion" for Gene, and a color catalog of Vintage Reprints illustrated with samples of outfits. Next new pattern: "Registered Nurse" (vintage repro).

Until next time, happy sewing!
