Chapter 3

Antonia ran inside the house, leaving her golf clubs in Candice's car. She was happy. Her plan was going to work. She walked into the kitchen and saw Nathan making a sandwich.

"Hey, bro," she said.

He looked up. "Hey, sis."

"Can I talk to you for a second?"

"Yeah. You know you always can. Even if I do say that I hate you once and a while."

Antonia laughed. "Very funny." She paused then got serious. "You're best friends with Scott, right?"

"That's a dumb question. You know that I am. Always have been."

"Do you know how his relationship with Gabi is going?"

"Yeah, it's going great. He really loves her and she really loves him."

"Nathan! It's not like that at all."

"Then why did you even ask me then?"

"Because I thought that you of all people, would know about what's going on, and would be doing something about it."

"Wait a second. Do something about what?"

"Nathan, Scott keeps hitting Gabriella."

Nathan stared at his younger sister for a minute, then shook his head in disbelief. "There's no way. It's not possible. Scott wouldn't do something like that."

"Oh no?"

"No."

"So you're not going to do anything about it?"

"Toni, there's nothing to do anything about!"

"Nathan, you're as naive as Gabriella."

With that, Antonia got up and walked out of the house. She was mad. Mad that her brother was so stupid and that he acted just like Gabriella. Then she smiled. This all would soon change. Her plan was to be put in to action the day of the tournament, which wasn't that far away. All of a sudden, she accidently ran into someone.

"Oh I'm-" She stopped and looked up into Scott's cold face. "Scott. What are you doing here?"

"I came to see Gabriella."

"Oh no you don't. I'm not letting you see her."

"What are you talking about?"

"You're not allowed any where around her, and certainly not in or around our house, anymore!"

Scott grabbed the collar of her shirt. "Listen, you can't tell me what to do."

Inside, Nathan thought he heard yelling from outside. Suddenly, he heard a slam against the door. What he didn't know was that Scott had just slammed his sister against the door.

"Come on," Antonia said. "Hit me." She knew that if he did, Nathan would have to start believing her.

"No. I'm not going to give you that satisfaction."

"Satisfaction?" Antonia said, still pressed up against the door. "What-" She was stopped when Nathan opened the door and Antonia and Scott tumbled into the doorway, with Scott squishing her.

"Um, hey Antonia," Nathan said confused. "Scott, you can get off of my sister now."

"Oh, yeah," Scott said and laughed. He stood up and helped Antonia up.

"What's going on?" Nathan asked.

Antonia started to explain. "He was-"

"Just visiting," Scott interrupted. "Just seeing if Gabriella was home."

"Well she's not," Nathan said. "I think you should go."

"I was just leaving. See ya Nathan, Antonia," he said, and gave her a look.

**The Day Of The Tournament**

"You guys ready to go?" Antonia asked. Her, Candice, Sherri and Gabriella were all ready to go to the tournament at the golf club.

"You guys," Gabriella finally said as they were on their way out to the car. "I don't think that I should go."

"Oh you are not going to pull this now!" Antonia said.

"But what about Scott? He forbade me to go in this tournament!"

"Get over it. Come on!" Antonia grabbed her friend's arm and dragged her into the car before she could say anything else.

When they arrived at the country club they got their clubs out of Candice's car when they heard a scream.

"Guys!"

"Amy! Serena!" they all said. They all put their clubs down and ran to hug their friends.

"Hey, how are you guys?" Antonia asked them.

"We're good," said Amy. "What about you guys?"

"Not much," said Candice.

"Are you guys in the tournament?" Antonia asked Amy.

"Actually we're not. We just came to wish you guys luck," said Amy.

"Come on, we need to get registered," said Candice.

"Okay," said Sherri. "Candice and I will go and register us all." They all nodded, and Antonia, Sherri and Gabriella walked out to the practice green where everyone else who wasn't playing was.

"So, did you ever hit it off with that Howie kid?" Gabriella asked Sherri, and Antonia cracked up with laughter. Just then, Antonia felt someone tap her shoulder. She turned around slowly.

"Brian!" she said.

"Toni!" he mocked.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"I'm in the tournament. What about you?"

"I'm in the tournament too!"

"So, how have you been?" he asked.

"Pretty good, yourself?"

"Pretty good," he said. There was a moment of silence between them. "So I see you're here with your friends," he said and smiled at the girls, and they smiled back not knowing who he was.

"Oh I'm sorry!" said Antonia. "These are my best friends Gabriella and Sherri."

"Hello," they both said.

"So," Brian said, turning back to Antonia. "Who are you paired up with?"

"I'm paired with Gabi. What about you?"

"I'm paired up with Nick."

Antonia turned a pale white, when Brian said Nick. "Nick?" she asked in disbelief. "As in, Nick the prick?"

"Um, yeah, I guess," Brian replied, not knowing her strange feelings toward his best friend. "He was paired with Kevin, but we switched."

"Oh," was Antonia could say.

"Yeah, he was going to register us when I heard your laugh. I looked over here and I saw you guys, so I decided to come over and say hi before I tee off."

"What do you mean my laugh?" Antonia asked putting her hands on her hips.

"You know," said Brian, "that high pitched giggle that you have that sounds like you're in labor." Antonia gave him a confused look. Brian tried to copy her laugh, and Sherri and Gabriella cracked up.

"I do not laugh like that!"

"Oh yes you do!" Gabriella said and laughed even harder. "Do it again, Brian!"

"Brian, there you are. I was looking all over for you. We tee off in fifteen minutes," Nick said walking up to Brian. He looked around and his eyes met with Antonia's. "Oh, hi."

"Uh, hi," she said rudely.

"Oh, what do I call you?" he asked her, just as rudely.

"Teachers used to call me Antonia, my friends call me Toni, and you're neither, jerk." Nick sighed.

"Hey Brian," Gabriella interrupted. "Have you met my friends Amy and Serena?"

"Oh, no, I haven't," Brian said. He turned away from Nick and Antonia getting Gabriella's drift that they two of them needed to talk. Brian, Gabriella and Sherri walked away to go meet Amy and Serena. Antonia watched as her friends walked away and left her.

"So, how have you been?" Nick asked Antonia, trying to be polite.

"Just peachy," she said sarcastically. She saw a look come across Nick's face when she said that, and guilt filled up inside her. She thought to herself, "Why should I feel guilty? He's the one that started all of this!"

"Oh," was all that he said.

"What about you?" she asked, still feeling guilty. She didn't sound snobby this time.

"Pretty good," he replied.

"That's good," she said. She had no clue what to say to him. Just looking at him made her to feel weird for some unknown reason. And she didn't want to feel that way.

"Hmm," he said nodding his head. She couldn't take it anymore. She looked around and didn't see anyone.

"I'm gonna go look for my friends," she said. She started walking away but her pace soon quickened to a jog.

"Great," Nick said to himself.

Antonia stopped jogging when she knew that she was out of Nick's sight.

"What is wrong with me?" she asked herself outloud. "There is definately something wrong with me. I can't do this right now. I have to tee off in a matter of minutes. I came here to golf, and that's what I'm going to do."

She got up and headed back towards the practice area and where she had left her golf clubs. When she reached it, she didn't see anyone around that she knew. Glancing over towards her golf bag, she saw a yellow piece of paper attached to it. She read it to herself:

"Hey, hey, hey Toni! As soon as the tournament is over (and I have won!), I will ask her. And I will make her. Don't worry. You put up a good argument. ~Alex."

"Excellent," Antonia said aloud. She smiled, slung her golf bag over her shoulder and headed towards the first tee with the note crumpled in her hand.
