Pre Civil War green painted tin cased brass pocket scale with weights. The lid has a painted spread wing eagle. The back of the case is inscribed by the owner C. Roberts. The inside of the case contains the hanging brass scales and an interior compartment with little marked weights. It also has two larger pewter weights. The inside of the lid is also inscribed Roberts and it has a few other period inscriptions. The inside of the lid has original gold paint as does the interior compartments lid. The original cases velvet type lining is also present. This type of scale would have been used by Civil War doctors and medical personnel to dole out medication. It shows some use and age wear. It measures app. 4 5/8" x 2 5/8" x 13/16" tall. It would be a stellar addition to you Civil War medical or USA hospital department display. $115
