May 1, 2002:
Although the numbers don't show it, Tony Stewart has actually had a decent year so far. Every race he has been in, his car was capable of running up front. Unfortunately he has just had some bad luck. He has just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. A good example of this was last week at California. Tony was running in the top ten, and looked very strong. All of a sudden, the Heim joint, (controls throttle) broke. When Tony came down pit road, he was going over the speed limit. Hence, NASCAR penalized Stewart by making him drive down pit road again at the mandated speed limit. He ended up losing about 3 laps to the leader because it happened under the green flag. To me, it seems that Tony is long over due for a good week. This week at Richmond, the Home Depot team goes to the track with a car that has only finished out of the top 6 once. Things right now aren't looking too good for the 20 car, but look for things to brighten up shortly.
