Specifications - GT Coupe

Superformance® GT Coupe Press Release.

With the launch date of Superformance's® long awaited GT Coupe now having been finalized, Jim Price of HiTech Automotive and Ron Kruger of Superformance International released specifications of the Coupe and details of the launch planning in order to put to rest all the speculation and rumors that have been rife since the prototype was seen in action in the One Lap of America two years ago.

Chassis . . .
A round tube spaceframe design that combines our aim of a 60's period look, but conforms to modern packaging and engineering requirements. The chassis layout was originally done by Jim Price himself, and then optimized by the late Bob Negstad and Dan Bamford (of Roush Engineering) with the finite element analysis by Wes Shultz of ACT. The torsional stiffness of the chassis alone is in the order of 6,000 lbs per degree.

Suspension . . .
Bob Negstad together with Don and Wes designed the fully independent suspension. The rear suspension is based on the work Bob and Klaus Arning did in the 60's and is a truly unique and impressive design. All computer simulations were done by Wes using industry standard ANSYS software. Details of the suspension will be given to Michael Stenhouse for inclusion in Second Strike.
(webmaster's note: Second Strike is the Superformance Owners Group)

Brakes . . .
Australian PBR calipers will be mated to specially selected Performance Friction hi-performance rotors. Dimensions are under construction and will be in keeping with the capabilities of the Coupe.

Shocks & Springs . . .
Bilstein and H&R have created a purpose built set of coil-overs for the new Coupe.

Wheels & Tires . . .
The wheels are 18" x 8" in front and 18" x 10" at the rear, and are being manufactured by an associate company Magtech. It will be a one of the first die cast magnesium wheels into the market, using a process patented by Magtech. The wheels are styled similar to the traditional FIA wheel. Tires of choice at this time are:

ManufacturerDunlop 9000BridgestonePerelli Pzero
Rear Tire Size295 x 50 x 18295 x 50 x 18285 x 50 x 18
Front Tire Size255 x 45 x 18255 x 45 x 18255 x 45 x 18

The rear tires are +/- 29 inches in diameter and the fronts 27 inches and are just the right size for the Coupe.

Body . . .
Our associate company Aerodyne Advanced Composites (a leading aerospace and specialist composites manufacturer) will be supplying the bodies. They are being constructed in a carbon/epoxy composite using the latest technology. Pete Brock, designer of the original Coupe in the 60's, worked very closely with us on this project and the final shape and form is entirely approved by Pete.

The doors have full wind-up windows in toughened glass and feature remote keyless locks and opening. The rear window/decklid is a carbon frame with a lexan screen. The front windscreen is a heated and tinted shatterproof unit.

Interior . . .
The interior is all black with leather seating surfaces, black high quality carpets and a black padded roof liner. The instruments are Stewart Warner and the steering wheel is a 14" Moto Lita unit.

The controls are traditionally laid out, and a full custom-made air conditioner with heating and cooling as well as multi-speed fans and directional control, is standard. The dash has a lockable glovebox and space for a radio. A remote immobilizer is also standard.

Drive Train . . .
The Coupe is designed to take anything from a standard 351 cu in small block engine to Roush's 408 cu in 475 hp (with 500 ft/lbs of torque) and a Tremec T56 six speed transmission. The differential is an 8.8, 3.73:1 posi-traction unit.

General . . .
The radiator has an aluminum core with built in oil cooler. The steering is power assisted and the rolling chassis will be supplied with air conditioning and power steering pumps and all the brackets. The ride dynamics are exceptional by any standard.

The exhaust system has the original looking side pipes but then goes back through two more mufflers. Full "race" side mufflers will be available as options. The stainless steel fuel tank is mounted over the rear axle and will hold 20 gallons. There are storage lockers under the rear deck and in the rear wheel wells. The final weight target is 2,400 lbs.

Superformance® and it's dealers are putting together a full public and media launch program, date to be announced shortly. The price of the Coupe rolling chassis - complete but without engine and transmission - will be $63,000. (Plus sales tax where applicable)

The Coupe will go into series production towards the end of September and the first units will reach the US at the time of the official launch. Some dealers are already holding orders, and these will be the first to be filled.

Current Superformance owners who want to add the Coupe to their stable of supercars will have 30 days from the launch date to place their orders with their dealers before the waiting lists will be opened to all buyers. Unfortunately this option for first deliveries cannot be extended to buyers with a vehicle to trade. They should discuss their requirements with their nearest dealer.
