Chapter 17
Later That Day
I've been waiting patiently all day for the test results to come back. I was really nervous. I hope me or Jason has a match to Christian's blood. If we don't then Christian will probably die. That just terrified me.
"Excuse me, are you Brian Littrell?" a nurse came up to me and asked. I looked over from the pop machine that I was getting a pop from and looked at her.
"Yes I am, what can I do for you?" I asked.
"I have the test results here for the blood test you and your son took earlier today," she said looking at her clip board.
"May I ask what they are? I've been waiting all day," I said nervously.
"Of course, that is why I came to find you," she smiled. "All right, I'm sorry to tell you but your blood came out negative."
I sighed deeply and my heart sank, "What about Jason?"
She smiled at me and said, "His blood matches Christian's perfectly."
"Are you serious?" I said shocked. "You aren't fooling me are you?"
"Of course not, Jason has the same blood type which means we can start the blood transfusion as soon as you like."
"I can't believe this," I said running my hand through my hair.
"I really can't believe this," I smiled widely.
"I'm glad the news pleases you, when would you like the transfusion to be?" she asked.
"As soon as possible, do you know when that would be?"
"We can do it right now if you like, we aren't very busy and the sooner it gets done the better," she replied.
"All right, thank you so much, I'll go get Jason and I'll be back here in a minute."
"Alrighty," she smiled at me. I smiled back and took off down the hall to the entertainment room where most of the kid visitors went to play games and everything. I entered the room and found Jason over by the Nintendo playing with another boy. I approached him and set my hand on his shoulder.
"Hey buddy," I said softly.
"Hey Dad," he said never taking his eyes off the screen.
"I found out what the test results were," I said.
"What are they?" he asked still playing his game.
"I found out that my blood isn't the same as Christian's but you match his," I said. He then stopped and looked at me.
"Really?" he asked looking right into my eyes.
"Really," I nodded. He then looked down.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I'm scared," he said softly.
"Oh Jason, you don't need to be scared. Think of this as helping your brother out a whole lot," I said.
"OK," he said looking up at me.
"Come on, lets get it over with," I said helping him up and taking his hand. We walked down the hall and up to the front desk. The nurse that informed me of the test results looked up from the computer and smiled at us.
"Hello there, this must be Jason," she said looking at Jason. Jason gave her a weak smile.
"That he is," I said squeezing his hand.
"Well, come with me. This shouldn't take very long. Would you like me to tell you wife about Jason for you?" she asked looking at me as she picked up a clip board.
"No, that's all right. I'll tell her later," I said. Which was true. I haven't told her yet about the tests or anything. I was going to tell her once we were done with this. I didn't want to worry her. She has enough worrying to do with the babies kidnapped and Christian and Michelle being in the hospital.
"OK," she said taking the clip board and beginning to walk down the hall. "Follow me and we'll go down to Christian's room."
We followed her down the hall until she entered Christian's room. I was nervous as to what I was going to see. I haven't been able to see him or Michelle yet due to the doctors. They said they couldn't have visitors yet and now I can finally see him. I was nervous and scared out of my mind.
We followed behind her and entered the room. Christian was laying on his back, his head tilted, his eyes closed, and pale as ever. Scratches and cuts were all over him and stitches were visible. My mouth dropped open slightly and tears came to my eyes. He looked nothing like Christian, nothing at all. He still had his curly blonde hair like me but he seemed like a totally different person.
Jason grabbed my hand and moved behind me a little with his eyes shut tight. I looked down at him and frowned.
"That's not Christian Dad, who is he?" he asked quietly.
"It's OK Jason, it's OK," I said soothingly.
"I'm sorry to have brought you in so quickly like this," the nurse apologized.
"That's alright," I said taking my eyes off of Christian and looking at her across the room. She was standing by the other bed with a hospital gown in her hand. She slightly smiled and looked down at Jason.
"Jason, can you put this on for me? You don't need to take everything off, just your shirt," she said holding out the gown. He stepped forward avoiding looking at Christian and took it. He put it on slowly and waited for her to tell him what to do next.
"Now jump on the bed for me," she said. He did as she said and sat there nervously as she began to hook things up. I went over to him and grabbed his hand.
"I'm scared Dad," he said looking at the machinery being hooked up. I rubbed his back and said, "I know buddy. I know, but it will be OK."
He nodded his head and sat there looking around the room nervously trying to not look at Christian but he did glance at him a few times.
"Alrighty, lets get this started," the nurse said coming over to Jason and holding out his arm.
"Now this will sting just a little bit OK? I have already put it into Christian, he's all ready to go, I just need to hook this up to you and we'll get this done with."
Jason nodded his head and said, "OK."
I took his hand and squeezed it. The nurse then inserted the needle into Jason's arm. Jason took in a deep breath and shut his eyes tight clenching his jaw. He squeezed my hand hardly and then loosened it a little.
"Does that feel better now?" the nurse asked. Jason opened his eyes and nodded breathing out shakily.
She smiled and said, "Alrighty, now lay down and we'll get this over with."
Jason did as she was told and laid down on his back. He closed his eyes and for the next 10 to 15 minutes I sat there holding Jason's hand as his blood flowed into Christian. I was feeling so many things as the process went through. I was nervous, I was scared but I was also relieved. I mean who wouldn't be? To actually know for sure that your son was going to survive just made a ton of bricks rise off your shoulders. The only time I have felt this relieved was when Tiffany woke up and now I'm feeling it again. I'm going to be honest when I say that it's a great feeling.
