Chapter 15
Brian's View
I stopped talking, took a deep breath and looked at Tiffany for her reaction. She was just looking at me with a blank expression. I just told her everything that happened, all the details and everything she needed to know.
"If this is a joke Brian it's not funny," she finally spoke.
"I'm not joking baby," I said quietly. She pursed her lips together and shut her eyes tight. A few tears dropped from her eyes and fell down her face.
"This couldn't have happened, it couldn't! Not to my babies!" she cried.
"Shhh, honey calm down. Things will be fine. Everything is going to be fine," I said squeezing her hand.
"Things will not be OK Brian! This wasn't supposed to happen! Why are these things happening to us Brian? Why? What did we ever do? All we have ever done was love each other and take care of our kids, that's it. What did we ever do to deserve this?" she cried. She covered her head in her hands and cried.
"Oh baby," I frowned getting choked up. "Things are going to be OK. I know they are."
I stood up and wrapped her in my arms and hugged her tight.
"This wasn't supposed to happen..." she sobbed into my shoulder. "It wasn't."
Later That Day
"Mr. and Mrs. Littrell?" a doctor asked coming into the hospital room. Tiffany was laying in bed resting and Jason and I were sitting in the chairs near her bed. Tiffany has been sleeping and crying all day. She's so upset from the news I told her.
"Yes?" I asked standing up.
"I'm Christian's doctor," he informed us. Tiffany looked over at him with fear in her eyes but also hope.
"Oh! Is there something wrong doctor?" I asked.
He sighed and said, "I'm afraid so."
"No, God no," Tiffany whispered. Tears were forming in her eyes again and also in mine. What happened? Did Christian die?
"Please stay calm, he is still alive and breathing but as Christian's old doctor had said, he has lost a lot of blood. He has produced more but not enough. For some reason, the amount of blood that should be producing isn't producing nearly as fast as it usually should. We have done some tests and we have found out that Christian's blood possesses a type of antibody that few people have and we are afraid that if we don't find a match to his blood then he'll die. He needs the blood and he needs it quick," the doctor explained. I just stood there. This just totally complicates more things.
"Oh my baby," Tiffany cried. "Brian what are we going to do!?"
"Honey just keep calm, I'm going to talk to the doctor outside of them room. I'll be back in a few minutes," I said looking at her and then following the doctor out into the hall.
"How long does he have?" I asked running my hand through my hair.
"3 days at the most," he informed me. "We have been searching for blood that matches his but we aren't having any luck. I didn't want to tell you and your family at first because I thought I would be able to find some but I haven't and now I need some blood samples from you and a couple of your family members. I have already taken some from Michelle and she doesn't match Christian's blood type, would you mind giving blood?"
"No, I will do anything to help any of my family out," I said. "Can you do me a favor though?"
"Anything."
"Please don't tell my wife about this, if you are gonna take some of her blood please do it when she's asleep. She doesn't need to know this just yet. She's real upset at what I told her earlier. I'll have Jason give blood when I do."
"That's fine, I'll do that," he slightly smiled at me.
"Thank you doctor."
"You are welcome, we'll try out best to help Christian out."
I
nodded and then walked back to the room. Tiffany was sleeping in her bed and
Jason was sitting in his chair fooling around with a game boy of his. I sighed
and walked over to him. I sat down and closed my eyes. My life is just too complicated
