LEAGUE NEWS AND NOTES

February 20, 2006
Alright, this page is just not getting updated. So many shows and stuff going on as of late that this page has become our red-headed stepchild. For the most recent and up-to-date info, check out our new main page at My Space:

www.MySpace.com/MBLTampa

Let's see what this page has missed...PBR Rockabilly Nights at the Orpheum, several shows at The Masquerade, the Holiday Celebration at Sims Park in New Port Richey featuring MBL, Rockabilly Ruckus III, Nafa's Steelers winning the Superbowl... Yeah--get the hence to the other page!!!!

Love you guys...

Howdy!

Well, this poor neglected website has a bit of the dust knocked off just in time to tell you about...

Yep, we're heading back down south to rock the Key! Should be a good time for all. And the sets are spiced with about 30 new and re-worked tunes so it'll be a new experience for all!

See you soon!

May 14, 2005
Just a quick note...

A tune put together by Nafa featuring the voices of Tim, Mike, Knyfe, and Nafa and titled Good Rockin' Tonight...'Aight? has charted on the Soundclick.com Rockabilly Boards:

Good Rockin' Tonight...'Aight?:
· #259 in the Country charts
· #28 in the Rockabilly sub charts

Ironically, it's a dance song, not a Rockabilly song! Check out more at http://www.soundclick.com/nafa and http://www.myspace.com/nafa.

See you tonight in Siesta Key!

Howdy!

Perusing the web, this was found recently written by one Drew Geraci (http://drewgeraci.com/050305.htm):

The opening act, Midnight Bowlers League, was tight and knew how to work a crowd. Lots of onstage carisma, showmanship and blistering guitarwork combined with a heart-pumping rhythm section. They covered all the greats, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly and they rotated singing duties, all displaying polished vocals. They play with vintage equipment, too! Even the wandering live rooster seemed to be enjoying the show from the tin roof of the stage, much to everyone's amusement!

A half-hour later, they came back out to do a second set, informing us that Link was running late. Karen and I sat by the soundboard operator, who informed us that Link was three hours late back at the same venue in '02. I went from slight anxiousness to hopelessness, when the sound op suddenly remembered that Link was a no-show at another venue in recent years.

At 7:00, there was an announcement from the stage: Link was at least two and a half hours away if we wished to stay. If not, they'd refund our tickets. A third of the crowd joined us in leaving as Midnight Bowlers League resumed playing their hearts out. I just couldn't gamble that Link would show POSSIBLY at ten pm. What would I do in the meantime, besides eat and drink too much? I had work waiting for me, Karen had a real job to go to in the morning, so it was with a heavy heart that we got our refund. If the MBL wasn't such a great band, it would've been a complete disaster.

Honest, we didn't put them up to it! But his kind words are much appreciated and we are really thankful to have such nice things said to us. Especially without having to pay them first! :D

Keep rockin' and see you Saturday on Siesta Key with the Psycho Devilles!

April 25, 2005
OK...

LINK WRAY/MBL. SKIPPER'S SMOKEHOUSE. MAY 1. 5:00PM.

Enough said.

And remember, if you show up late and miss our set, you have still paid to see us.

Later!

PS: We'll be coming down Sarasota/Siesta Key way on May 14 at the Speakeasy for the Hot Rod Walt & The Psycho Deville's CD release party!

Whoa nelly!

Well, it's been a while since the update but in short the Rockabilly Ruckus went off smashingly, the WMNF radio show was a huge success, and the camping weekend was as much fun as ever.

The past week has sucked royally with the passing of Mitch Hedberg, Crowded House drummer Paul Hester, and the Pope among others. Raise a pint for them and for everyone else.

Next up for the boys is another appearance at University Community Hospital's annual Walk-A-Thon fund raiser. This year MBL goes on at 11:00pm (a little earlier than last year's 2:00am). Come on out for a good cause and a FREE MBL show!

Also, visit http://www.myspace.com/mbltampa for a new MBL site with free music downloads and the latest news! Woohoo!

That's it for now, keep rockin'!

Howdy!

2005 started off with a bang! A great show (as always) with the Psycho Devilles up in Orlando at the Copper Rocket on the first of the year. Those of you who braved the hangovers and Bowl games were treated to a rockin' time!

A big 'AYYYYYYYYYYY!' goes out to Walt and the boys for a great time:

We're just around the corner from the 2nd Annual WMNF Rockabilly Ruckus, and yours truly are going to kick off the shindig once again. All the info is linked from our gigs page and also available at WMNF.org. $20, 4:00pm, a shitload of Rockabilly--what more could you want?!?! OK, how about the CIGAR STORE INDIANS, THE DEMPSEYS, HOT ROD WALT & THE PSYCHO DEVILLES, MIDNIGHT BOWLERS LEAGUE, and MORE?!?! Alright then! See you there!

Save me a Guinness...

October 4, 2004
Hello, young lovers!

Don't you hate speaking too soon? OK, this time for real--hope that everyone made it through the hurricanes safely (Jeanne happened since last we spoke and some friends are still without power 9 days later). Best wishes to all.

So here we are in October. Time for more shows and whatnot. At the end of the month (Saturday the 30th) we are headlining the Portuguese-American Club (in St. Pete) Halloween bash, so that should be exciting. A good long set and some costumed hijinks...what could be better?

Amazon.com is still featuring the MBL demos for That's Alright Mama, Jitterbop, and My Baby Left Me, with a few of the tracks landing in the top 5. Whoda thunk it, duder?

Unfortunately, MBL wasn't able to perform at the pre-debate party for the Republican Party, but watch for the time and place for us headlining a Bush VICTORY party come November.

That's all for now. Stay safe and pray for no more 'canes.

September 15, 2004
Greetings from sunny Florida...

Alright, it's been awhile since this has been updated. Summer has come and gone and there were plenty o' rockin' times. Then hurricane season started and things ever since have been rockin' in a different way. But I hope this finds all our Florida and Southern states readers in a good way and without damage or (much) power outage related to all the storms. As I type, Ivan is right off our coast and headed north.

Despite all that MBL has been loading up the old arsenal with some new tunes that are guaranteed to get you moving and a few surprises to keep you on your toes (see the 8/21 version of Rock The Joint and a brief cover of Ladies Of Death Row Swimsuit Calendar's Hula Baby as sung by Tim).

Interesting news from Amazon.com. Apparenlty the MBL versions of That's Alright Mama, My Baby Left Me (an Amazon HOT! pick), and Jitterbop have come in on their Oldies chart at numbers 32, 45, and 60, respectively. Some of the other artists on that list include Sleepy LaBeef, Carl Perkins, Los Straightjackets, and Fats Domino, so that ain't bad company to be in!

Also, some possible BIG news on a very high profile gig coming sometime before November...more news on that as it happens!

That's it for now, duders. Be safe and do what you can for those who've been affected by this hurricane season.

June 11, 2004
Greetings from the home of the Stanley Cup!

Alright duders, down to business...After a brief respite, MBL will be back playing with Hot Rod Walt and the Psycho Devilles down at the Speakeasy on Siesta Key on Saturday June 19. Check out this long-ass address for more information: http://florida-secrets.com/UniqueEstablish/Speakeasy/speakeasy.htm

Also, as a side-note, the Ladies Of Death Row Swimsuit Calendar (fronted by Richard Glenn Schmidt and featuring MBL's Mike Fluno and Nafa) will be playing this Monday night at Yeoman's Road Pub on Davis Island. It ain't Rockabilly, so you have been warned.

That's it for now. See you out there!

April 5, 2004
Heeeeeeeeeeello, bay-bey!

First off, a big raising of the pint goes out to Hot Rod Walt, Steve, and Kevin for the BRILLIANT time this past weekend with the Atomic Rockabilly Rumble! It had it all: the cars, the bands, and the crowd. Everything was full on, non-stop, and a damn good time. Great to see everyone turning up for this one.

Site news...the Links page has been finally updated (Hell, only took 4 years) to represent a more current state of things. Thanks to Jessica at the Vandalettes website and once again to Walt for the banners.

Don't forget this Saturday (YES, despite what was posted, the show is THIS Saturday) at the Stardust in Ybor. $5, 9:00pm, and a whole lotta Cock Polish.

OK, all for now. See you Saturday night!

March 19, 2004
Howdy!

MBL, trio-version, will be playing in Dade City tonight at a shindig in the pins. Tomorrow, MBL, quartet-version, will be playing at shindig in the sticks. Both are set for an absolute riot of a time!

Most importantly, MBL would like to take this moment to honor one of America's finest. This man is an inspiration to us all, and we would like for you to stop from your busy day and reflect on the contributions he has made. Please click the link below to honor him:

That's all for now...see you soon!

March 11, 2004
Word.

OK, no news is good news, so how about a pic? Here's Nafa in action during the recording of The Ladies Of Death Row Swimsuit Calendar's latest release, 'Live From Swimstrunk California'.

You can find out more about LoDRSsC at https://www.angelfire.com/fl4/richardglennschmidt/swimsuit.html .

Don't forget, MBL is playing a private party on 3/20, then the Atomic Rockabilly Rumble on 4/2-3, and then Ybor at the Stardust Cafe' on 4/10 for our friends with Cock Polish.

Roger....over and out!

February 27, 2004
Greetings!

This past Saturday was WMNF's Rockabilly Ruckus at Skipper's Smokehouse, and it was a rockin' event! Fun was had by all and the reception was brilliant. There are some excellent pix up on the WMNF site (www.wmnf.org) and on our friends the Vandalettes' site (www.vandalettes.com).

Also, thanks once again to Ms. Cyd, here is proof of Mike's rapping moment at the Liars Club earlier this year. Just call him Vanilla Mike:

That's all for now...see you in Lithia!

February 18, 2004
Hey ya!

To bring you up to speed, the Orlando Rumblers Groundhog Gala went off with a good crowd and a few minor difficulties, but the Orlando Cowboy was an awesome place! And Skinny McGee got serenaded with a reworking of Hey Mickey, reworked just for him as Hey Skinny.

Tonight we've added a new show to the list, and that's on April 10 in Ybor City...and once again it is for our friends at Cock Polish! More details to come, but it may be with the Psycho Devilles.

And don't forget this Saturday's Rockabilly Ruckus at Skipper's Smokehouse. It's a WMNF event and the rockin' starts at 4:00pm sharp! Besides yours truly, you'll get treated to Skinny McGee & His Mayhem Makers, Rosie Flores, LOS STRAIGHTJACKETS, and more! Come on out for a full day and night of Rockabilly!!!

That's all for now, commrades!

January 26, 2004
Hola, burritos!

Not much to report from the MBL camp at this moment. We're gearing up for the Orlando Rumblers show at Cowboy's on February 8.

The Cock Polish release party went well, with 2 45-minute sets, followed by some dang rockin' tunes by Johnny Zoom Cheerlead Squad. T

Speaking of burritos, it's time for lunch...later duders!

January 11, 2004
Howdy, duders!

Well, a quick booking for a show this upcomming Friday (Jauary 16, 2004) at the New World Brewery in Ybor. We will be playing the 'Rockabilly Hootinanny' with Johnny Zoom Chearlead Squad, and most amazing of all, we are on the 97-X website as a best bet pick! The show is also sponsored by Cock Polish, and NO that's not what you think, it's some sort of cosmetic--check out the site at http://www.cockpolish.com/promos.html. Holy craaaaaap!!

Also, we've had a few questions about the messages written on Nafa's guitars at different shows. Are they secret messages? Alien transmissions? Random BS? Probably a little of each. To list them, they have been:
9/5/04: KSHC (short for either 'Killnspree Hardcore' or 'Kent State Hunting Club')
9/26/04: RUN, RABBIT, RUN!
11/22/04: I LOVE YOUR SCENE!
12/19/04: ask me about LADIES OF DEATH ROW; TIM RULES!
1/3/04: MBL SUCKS!

That's it for now, rockers and non-rockers. See you Friday! Take care...

January 5, 2004
Happy New Year, Leaguers!

2004 started off on an atypical foot with another rockin' MBL/Hot Rod Walt & The Psycho Devilles show at the Liar's Club on January 3. MBL pulled no punches with a fun set punctuated with songs from out of the preverbial oriface. The traditional set was shaken up a bit with some covers of Michael Jackson, Vanilla Ice, and Britney Spears to name a few. Everyone had a great time with the dancing and libations. And there was even a request for Mike to show his ass, so you know it was a weird night. Great crowd!!! And don't get me started about Kevin, Steve, and Walt...they NEVER disappoint and ALWAYS put on a blistering set!

Barring more surprise shows, the next gig will be in Orlando on February 8, 2004, for the Orlando Rumblers Groundhog Gala. Also on the horizon is February 21, 2004, with LOS STRAIGHTJACKETS (!!!) and Rosie Flores at Skipper's.

And there are now photos up from the very cold (25 degrees, man!) Osceola Tavern show on December 19, 2003, and a pic from the most recent MBL/TPD show.

In other news, as an attempt to become more 'Rockabilly', Mike has decided to try out a new look, albeit a bit misguided on his part:

Also, we've been able to rectify that little problem we had with the vocals:

That's it for now...take care and keep safe!

December 15, 2003
Howdy, duders!

At the behest of the voice of the people and by presidential decree, any song Tim sings will now be song by Knyfe and Tim will lip-synch. The execution of this will be done via the method of ventriloquism, and after countless hours of sticking his hand up Tim's backside, Knyfe has perfected his techinique. I think you all will be very pleased with the results.

Anyway, don't forget the Skinny McGee/MBL show in Dade City, this Friday night! Unfortunately due to an oversight by the bookers, the January 10, 2004, show at the Green Room in Ybor is probably going to be postponed. However, MBL have just added Skipper's on February 21, 2004, and another show is brewing sometime on the weekend of March 21, 2004.

And check out this site created by Mr. Harry...he's brilliant!

Harry's Site

That's it for now cats and kittens!

November 23, 2003
Howdy, ya'll! A couple of pictures are up from the Liar's Club show on November 22, thanks to Cydney McLaeb! Remember, if you have any pictures you'd like to contribute, send off to Nafa at EvilBadstar@hotmail.com. All donations gladly accepted, uh thank you very much!

Also, there's a bit of a site redesign through out.

The show on December 5 at the Speakeasy down near Sarasota has been postponed. However, a new show on December 19 at the Osceola House in Dade City has been added.

That's all for now, duders!

Back to where ya started...
