* The TC Jammers live at Bunkers Bar & Gril, Minneapolis
- Review by Dazeofwild@aol.com
- The first of 4 volumes here with each one containing an exciting
Love 4 1another show from Paisley Park in the fall of 1995.
Each of these 4 volumes contain eye grabbing packaging coming encased
in their own jewel box with superbly designed sleeves featuring photos
from the 1996 calendar, the Versace photo session and some live shots
from the 1995 European Gold tour. Very nice and definitely compatible
with the superb The Park
sets released last year.
What was so great about these shows were that they were all different
and unpredictable, even to the NPG themselves. Tracks performed were
often chosen during the show and extended jams bounced all over the
place displaying the remarkable talent what I say is his finest band
ever. I attended three of these shows and the feeling of having no idea
what he would be playing from his vast catalog was the real highlight.
Would he play something unreleased, something from the still to be seen
Gold LP, something from his Prince catalog??
This show contains many of the vital songs from the Exodus LP and is
splattered with various covers along with a beautiful and delicate
version of I Love U In Me, similar to the Gold tour versions.
The Exodus tracks rock and have vastly different arrangements to their
LP counterparts. The Glam Slam Boogie is still one of my
personal highlights in concert with its rollicking groove allows our
hero to stretch all the way out. This was one of shortest gigs, lasting
barely 55 minutes but definitely not lacking in excitement. Two TC
Jammers songs are included at the end of the disc live from Bunkers Bar
& Grill in Minneapolis including the Prince funk classic,
High Fashion. These are also very nice quality. For further
information on this show and all of the other Love 4 1another
dates, refer to the excellent diary of them in issues 21 & 22 of
UPTOWN
magazine.
- Recommendation
- All of the Love 4 1another gigs are worthy of owning with each
one being the equivalent of an aftershow. Having the opportunity to hear
the man perform in the comfort of his own house is something special,
even if its just on tape or CD.

- I was one of only about 200 people in the states happy that TAFKAP
decided to drop out of the scheduled list of performers at the Rock N
Roll hall of fame show last year in Cleveland. Instead, myself and a
fortunate group of others were treated to an outstanding show at Paisley
Park. Highlights included a rare live version of We March and
what I believe may have been his first ever US performances of
Honky Tonk Women and Jailhouse Rock. The latter two
tracks were dedicated as he smugly pointed out, "to the party we missed
tonight". He was determined to make sure that we knew the REAL party
this night was in Paisley Park, and told us so by making about a half a
dozen comments throughout the gig. Highlights include a crystal clear
version of The Ride, and scorching rock guitar on the two
aforementioned cover versions. Loose and P Control
open the show on a high note that leads into a bass heavy version of
Days of Wild. The only disappointment I recall was the much too
brief version of The Cross that ended the show. It had the
potential to blow the roof off but it wasn't delivered. A delightful
show in great quality, probably containing the best sound of the
4 Open Session volumes.
As stated in my Volume I review, the packaging here is very attractive
with each CD encased separately with an attractive array of 1995 era
photos.
- Recommendation
- Great show that fits nice and snug on one CD. A must if you were there
of course but otherwise a fine addition to any collection of improvised
P performances.

* The TC Jammers live at Bunkers in Minneapolis
- Review by Dazeofwild@aol.com
- This was one of the longest Love 4 1another shows and featured
the most talkative our hero has been in quite awhile, especially when in
front such a small crowd. He had a lot to say but unfortunately only 250
people attended to hear it. The show featured the usual potpourri of
Prince hits from the past and some new songs. Highlights for US fans
were rare live versions of Letitgo and Pink Cashmere
which were played prominently on the European Gold tour earlier that
spring. I wish I would've been there to see the performance of
The Purple Medley, a song that I always seemed to miss when I
saw him perform last year. Sound quality at the show and on this disc
set is quite erratic, particularly at the beginning of the show. Towards
the latter half of the show there seems to be a noticeable improvement
in the sound quality.
UPTOWN
magazine's review of the gig noted that there were several technical
difficulties during the show which may have been some of the reason he
offered so much conversation with the crowd. A near complete
transcription of the dialogue can be found in Uptown #21 but my favorite
part is when he tells us that when he's free from his Warner's contract
he swears to God 'that there'll be more than one album coming out each
year'. Sounds good to me.
Packaging is very attractive with a great little booklet featuring more
1995 photos. The bonus live tracks by the TC Jammers are enjoyable but
not something this fan is going to be playing much more than once,
considering I have a plethora of Prince shows I've never even played all
the way through once.
- Recommendation
- A fine show that improves as it goes on and the recorded dialogue of our
man talking about his future plans is as close to a recorded interview
as we'll ever get. Not the best Love show but certainly not a
disappointment.

- One of my favorite Love 4 1another shows here and a vast
improvement over the show reviewed on Volume III. Our hero opens the
show here claiming he's blue because he's catching the flu and Mayte's
out of town. "If y'all dance for me - I'll play for you" he asks. And
play he did. For someone who's catching the flu he played a very
inspired set. Featured here is a very long and killer version of
Days of Wild that features more thrilling solo work by the man
on the bass and keyboards. Everytime you think the song is about to end
it kicks back and jams on for another 2 minutes before the next break.
Sound quality here is prime, not suffering from the inconsistent quality
of some of the other shows I've reviewed. The sound is consistently high
from the start of the opening strands of 0Sometimes it Snows in
April (which is beautifully sung along with I Love U in Me)
to the funked out rendition of the old school classic
Flashlight, which is a track I'm surprised hasn't appeared more
in his itinerary over the past several years. Big time producer Dallas
Austin guest stars on keyboards and does pulls off some fine solos.
Disappointments here are Dolphin, The Most
Beautiful..., and I Hate U, all 3 of which simply don't
stand up well to their flawless studio counterparts and spoil the
momentum of the show created by Return of the Bump Squad and
Days of Wild. Maybe that's why Days of Wild may
forever be unreleased? We'll never then have a superior LP version to
critique all of the live versions against??
The CD sleeve says 9/26/95 but I believe it is incorrect.
UPTOWN
mag dates this show at 9/19/95)....is there anyone who was there to
confirm this??
- Recommendation
- Oh yes. Great show and quality that kills!!
