Sutter Cane
Justin Brink, Eric Brouillette, Scott Hillabrand, Chris Kelley, & Adam Tourek.

In February of 1998, Sutter Cane had their first practice. The band consisted of Scott Hillabrand on drums, Adam Tourek, on guitar, and Justin Brink on vocals. They worked on a gay song called "Blind Mans Semen". The arrangement didn't work very well so Adam's creative abilities were joined into Release with Joe Meyers and Scott.

After a few weeks we got our act together and had our first official practice with Scott on Drums, Justin and Brandon Crane on vocals, Eric Brouillette on guitar, and we finally found a bassist, Tim Vangeem. Working hard at our shit for a few months, we finally played our first show at the Asylum on August 12th, 1998 with Erotic Exorcism and Blue Panic.

At first we based our songs off horror movies, serial killers, and anti-religious aspects of life. Now I don't quite know how you would define the music. We like to refer to it as gay-wannabe death metal, but that doesn't really describe it. We went for awhile playing these songs and grew tired of them. Around May of '99, we got really pissed off at some dumb bitch and wrote a song called "Terrorist". At this point we revived the music we were playing. I feel this was the true turning point of the band. Much more energy and excitement filled our tired hearts with the power-violence like melodies.

In July of '99, Tim moved to California and we had various replacements. This one kid from the bands, Cupidisdead and Gamblor, Chris Kelley, became the permanent bass player around October of '99. With Chris on board and in a very short time, Sutter Cane became almost a new band, going from dumb butt-rock to a much more emotional power-violence metal band.

Around this time Brandon, who had been playing guitar since May, left the band to join Fornever. Since then we have pretty much been having the time of our lives jumping around and running into each other.

Adam and I were sitting in the basement at the HMV house, when the four members of Sutter Cane suddenly gathered in private in a back room. Adam and I continued to drink and discuss our project, when Scott yelled for Adam. He lept up and into the laundry room, where the four members all at once asked Adam to be the fifth member. Adam Tourek is now Adam Cane.
