Habitat and food:
Featherdrakes live anywhere where there are a lot of trees around. They need trees to make their aeyries, which are their home/nests. When setting up a habitat for you featherdrake, please make sure that there are lots of trees. This includes anything from temperate forest to tropical jungle.

Featherdrakes are omnivores. They eat fruit, some leaves, and insects. They also eat a few types of meat, including small birds and bats. They don't scavenge, though - they will refuse anything other than absolutely fresh meat.

Colors:
There are 13 different types of featherdrakes - sun, coal, flower, sunset, sky, spring, ocean, smoke, snow, bark, berry, night, and crystal. There are four different ranks, and there are also specials. Crystal featherdrakes are specials. Specials are above all in rank. The only advantage in having a featherdrake with a higher rank is that it will produce more eggs (for more, see mating). Featherdrakes also have different powers, depending on which type they are. All powers need energy and major work by any featherdrake will exhaust it. Below is a list telling each type's power and also their rank.

Rank 1: (lowest)
Sun - Sun featherdrakes produce light, and can make blinding sparks as a defense tactic.

Coal - Coal featherdrakes produce heat, but not open flame. They can also find dry wood and coal deposites.

Flower - Flower featherdrakes are usually very cheerful and energetic. They have the ability to find specific plants, such as flowers or herbs.

Rank 2:
Sunset - Sunset featherdrakes can read auras, tell good from evil, and can also detect people's moods.

Sky - Sky featherdrakes can call up wind, which makes them good on ships. They are also excellent fliers and singers.

Spring - Spring featherdrakes are very in tune with people's moods. They remain calm in almost any situation and can control how people feel, making them exceptionally useful for soothing the frightened or injured.

Rank 3:
Ocean - Ocean featherdrakes can detect and purify water for drinking. They swim like a fish and can also control waves to a limited degree.

Smoke - Smoke featherdrakes can produce/disperse fog. They are also excellent navigators.

Snow - Snow featherdrakes can call up rain or snow. They don't mind being exposed to harsh weather, but normally prefer it when it's cool.

Rank 4:
Bark - Bark featherdrakes can change color (including their bondmate's color). They are also herbalists.

Berry - Berry featherdrakes can communicate with plants. They have a green thumb and can make plants grow out-of-season (they can make apples grow in winter, for example).

Night - Night featherdrakes are nocturnal and can enhance their bondmate's senses.

Specials:
Crystal - Crystal featherdrakes are the most common type of specials. They are born whenever a there is a crystal parent to a clutch. This means that there is only one crystal every generation and that two crystals can never mate. Crystal featherdrakes can detect and thermotelekinetically shape gemstones into jewelry, power stones, etc.

All specials are very exclusive. Those that I find from wild clutches will be given out as prizes in contests. Other than the crystals, there is normally only one special for every generation and it will go to the person who has prepared the best home for their featherdrake out of all who apply for that clutch.
