Back to 1999

May 30, 1999

May 30, 1999 was a Saturday. My chase partners for this day were Mike Seaman and Barb Tobey. We woke up in Oklahoma and had decided the night before not to go and that we were waiting on an expected bigger day in western Kansas/Oklahoma on Sunday. We had only been in Oklahoma for a week now, but were were ancious to get some chasing started. It was only a slight risk from the SPC with "isolated tornadoes possible" in central and western Nebraska. It was a 9 hour drive from Norman to Grand Island and it was 9 am, so we said what the heck and took off. All and all I feel this day went well expect for the speeding ticket in Silina, KS. We got to central Nebraska just as the storms were starting to fire. We caught the best storm of the day and it produced the funnel cloud below. No tornadoes, but not bad for waking up in Norman and making a mad dash for central Nebraska with little time to stop for updates...
