Be Realistic.
Just trust us.

Realistic RPing does not mean that you should strike magic/telepathy/whatever from any of your characters because it doesn't exist in the real world. Realistic RPing is not just something that is done by those who stifle your creativity and make stupid rules (although we've gotten both of those complaints before).
Realistic RPing is simply something that you do, because it's right. If we were not realistic while RPing, GodModers would rule the world and spam would cost twenty dollars a can.
...but I digress.
Realism in roleplaying simply makes things more enjoyable. You can at least rest easy knowing that as long as something isn't realistic, it probably won't happen. Besides, what's the fun in knowing that at any moment somebody could do something that might totally destroy the plot and not have to explain themselves? Common breeches of realism include:
- GodModing: Being able to fight for hideous amounts of time and lose hideous amounts of blood, or acting in a godlike fashion (coming back from the dead, etc, without going through the proper measures such as explaining why/questing/etc).
- Super Caffeinated Run: In other words, your character never stops to eat or sleep. Ever. I've actually run into this before, as bizarre as it sounds to any sane person.
- Super Healing Powers: Not quite godmoding, but not realistic, either. These people manage to recover from things they shouldn't be able to in an enormous amount of time. Many godmoders have super healing powers, but sometimes those with super healing powers just don't realize what they're doing. It helps to have a friend with a medical encyclopedia or something, to double check this kind of thing with. Otherwise, you should just do your best to look up effects and the such on the 'net, using search engines and any other tools you might find.
- Self Contained Conversations/Movements: Don't hold five minute conversations between your own characters if others are present. It isn't realistic to assume that the others would just be quiet while listening to you. Likewise, don't have them run off and start doing stuff before the others can object. It isn't realistic, and it's also autoing, to a certain degree.
- Perfection: Perfection is the most unrealistic thing in the world. Nobody knows everything. Nobody can do anything they want. Nobody can lead everyone to certain death and out the other side without ever a moment of flaw. So don't assume your character is an exception.
- The Plot Hole: Dreaded by many, The Plot Hole is quite possibly one of the most feared things in the mind of many RPers. A Plot Hole comes into being when things start happening with no feasible explanation, and when there are things that are totally unknown and left unexplained. Once a Plot Hole has been established, it can become difficult to fix if left alone for too long. Avoid plot holes like the plague, but if one happens to occur you should try to fix it as soon as humanely possible.
