Ideals
(the Book and Scroll...redone)
The Crusade Against Stupidity and Mooching. The CASM. It used to be that simply mentioning our organization would strike fear into the hearts of some groups of RPers... either that, or they would ruthlessly flame us, claiming that we stifled creativity and the such.
The NeoCASM, however, is dedicated more to improving the skills of those who do not follow our code than to frightening and terrorizing them. Our goal is to become a network of RP boards and character creation help that will enable those who are new at RPing or those that want to revamp their style to improve thier writing skills.
The CASM is more liberal than it used to be, however we still hold most of our views. The CASM is against:
- Mooching: Mooching is described as the act of taking a character from a book/tv show/movie/video game and then playing them completely out of character. The last thing that we need is Martin the Warrior getting drunk and hitting on female mice.
- Long Lost Relatives: Martin does not have a long lost brother. Harry Potter does not have a long lost twin sister. So please, refrain from making characters that are related to copyrighted chars unless it is truly feasible.
- Mysterious Markings: Things like bright aqua eyes and yellow fur on a mouse furry. Mysterious scars with no explanation. You can make a character look interesting without pushing the bounds of reality.
- Anachronisms: An anachronism is when something from a certain time is placed in another. For instance, having watches in an Ancient Rome timeline. Or having a gun in medieval timelines.
- Bad RP Etiquette: Hitcalling is ok sometimes, as long as both parties agree. The problem comes with GodModers... People who can lose 4.7 quarts of blood and still be running around. People who never get tired in a battle. People who fight perfectly even under great emotional stress. Autoing (controlling somebody else's character) is also bad, save the most minor ones.
- Lack of Depth: You know what I'm talking about. Those characters whose sole purpose in life is to thwart evil and do no wrong. Those characters who have no personality, save that they're "sweet" or "evil." The kind of characters that tend to show up on those massive character lists of fifty and sixty.
- Cliches: Twins, of which one is good and one is evil. The exiled young warrior who has vowed revenge. The insane and evil warlord. These are basically lack of depth in plot and history. A cliche can be okay when used sparingly, but creativity is something we value.
